I have found a program called hide-my-ip

Has anyone used it or any other IP-hiding site? Do they work? Are they dodgy? Would they allow someone to access BBC iPlayer from abroad?

Hide my IP is fine.

It will allow you to watch iPlayer abroad as you can set yourself an IP in any region/country.

It's not, in itself, dodgy. It's how you use it that might be.....

You heard of Tor?

If not read about it. Like anything it has its limitations.

If you arent downloading a backup of the world wide web (that might annoy some of the providers), it might be worth a look.

Thanks for the replies, but hide-my-ip wouldn't work (kept closing itself down when I tried to start it) and Tor didn't allow me to download Flash within its browser which you need for iPlayer.

Any other suggestions?

I use PureVPN

It's cheap, seamless & just as fast as connecting straight through an ISP
it means I can watch iPlayer etc. wherever I am

If anyone was to do a traceroute now, they'd see I was in Holland [not]

For what reason would anyone want to hide their IP address?

I could tell you or you could read the posts above. Let me know which you choose.
