Do any STWers know of reasonably priced shops/individuals who will re-wire a Project tonearm?
I was changing my cartridge and while gentle teasing of the connectors with tweezers, the tweezer slid along the connector, caught the little wire and pulled it off where it is soldered to the connector the plugs into the back of the cartridge.
I've currently got it blu-tacked on(!), but there is now a feedback hum I can't get rid of.
Its an early Project Genie II - so not high-end, and I don't want to spend a fortune.
Ta!
Isn't just a solder job?
I've not used a soldering iron since I was at school 30+ years ago!
If I understand correctly you're just wanting to solder the wire back to the contact?
If yes that is a very easy DIY job. Check on ebay or the web for a cheap soldering kit and give it a go.
Or if there is enough solder on the contact left over you might be able to bodge it. A friend once heated up a thin flat head screwdriver on a gas hob and used that to remelt the existing solder on a contact and re-attach a wire.
If you are near Hemel Hempstead, Herts I can have a go. I'm no soldering expert but can do basic stuff.
Shouldn't need a rewire, just a new connector. That's assuming you've got enough cable to work with. Try indie record shops as well.
Not quite Derbyshire but John Kirk Hifi at Beeston repaired my Monitor Audio sub and always seem to have items in various states of repair in the back room.
If you have a go yourself be very very careful not to get everything too hot or you'll melt the plastic parts.
Split the difference: take it to a radio/telly repairer. Just get that one spade reattached, shouldn't be difficult if they're skilled with an iron.
Tiny wires - and likely a new clip required its not really a 1st time diy solder job - as above could easily overheat and mess up requiring a rewire
which will cost.
Try Jonny at Audio Origami.
Ok, he's in Glasgow but you could post the arm to him.
He's certainly worth contacting. Amazingly helpful audio specialist.
I'm sure he'll advise the correct route be that diy or send to him.
He's just rewired my RB303. Splendid service.
