Always loved the comfort and general dryness that my HH lifa base layers provide. I need to buy some more and wondered if they are top of their game or are there others that are noticeably better at the same Job?
Recommendations much appreciated
thanks
Bill
The only things that I have found better than a standard long sleeved Lifa top are the short sleeved version for when it is slightly warmer out, and the Lifa with the merino backing for when it is really cold.
I've tried a few different baselayers over the years, some performed a bit better some a bit worse but none that lasts like a hh top does. Can't be beaten for overall value, performance and durability IMHO.
I would echo the above about HH Warm hybrid - my last one I noticed yesterday is going in holes, I'm going to replace it with same again. Perfect on cold or damp days.
Lifa's just work, wick well, warm ish, comfy. End of.
i do find that my Patagonia Capeline 1 / Light is brilliant as hot weather wear - I've a long and short sleeve, and they have different fabrics under arm etc, and they are better than Lifa at staying dry / drying out. Find them in the sale though, man they are expensive at rrp.
I've finally and reluctantly had to retire one of my HH's after ten years of use, became a smelly helly.
I've tried other base layers, but this time bought another Helly from here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Helly-Hansen-Mens-HH-Lifa-Crew-LS-Baselayer-Top/232714880804?hash=item362ee34724:m:mtortcBxsc_v_oRu0PNVPsQ
I haven't found anything as good.
I like my Canterbury base layers - only ones i've ever used so can't compare but worth a look.
There is nothing significantly better than HH Lifa IMO, even better you can usually buy them reduced at Sports Pursuits etc

So they could be the worst on the market then? Literally ever other product could be superior, and you wouldn't know :-).
I have both an HH and a Berghaus Argentum base layer ..both equally as good as each other ..

Absolutely!
However, nothing I have ever owned from Canterbury has been less than excellent for it's purpose, so I feel confident that it will stand up to scrutiny against Henry Hansen, Helly Lloyd or any other brand.
Always been a fan of Lifas - have tried a few others over the years but my lifa has lasted god knows how long and is still doing three or four runs weekly while mornings are cold. Also use a HH with a half-zip and slightly higher neck (but otherwise identical to lifa material) for boarding - apart from stuck on stripes coming away, has been faultless also.
They do just seem to work, but we can't be the only household that calls them smelly hansens can we?
Mine have never been in the slightest bit pongy. Always get chucked for a quick 30min/30deg wash with a little detergent straight after a run. Never had a problem with them smelling.

Yes you probably are the only ones. Everyone else calls them smelly hellys.
I never seem to have issues with them smelling.
If not immediately going in the wash then I find that it is best to hang them on the towel rail to dry first instead of them festering damp in the wash basket. Same with all running , riding and horsey things.
Usually wash sports stuff at 40deg.
My oldest Lifa must be around 15 now and still gets worn around once a week.
We (like many) nicknamed them “smellyhellys” too.
Still have them mind, think I might have 3-4 of the long sleeve in my sailing kit bags..
