Can anyone recommend one? I need a new coat and fancy something a bit retro.

Wondering why Heros of the Telemark jackets suddenly have two threads in as many months, you might not be as random fashionista as you like to think?..

Reminds me of the early Mid 90's when I really wanted a TNF gore-tex mountaineering jacket and had to drive to one shop in the Lakes to fawn over them, as that was pretty much the only shop in the North that stocked TNF (Rock and Run, maybe? or Needlesports, maybe The Climbers Shop). Then, 12 months later when I was ready to buy one, my boss turned up wearing one, then I realised every ****er in the Old Dungeon Gill was wearing them and they were suddenly  available in lots of outdoor shop, never did own one, the moment was lost in a matter of months.

I love Ventile - really, really love it.  Had a couple of the Ventile jackets from Howies and over the last few years having seen more from more manufacturers - I would like more!

Weren't they all the rage a few years ago? £300 odd?

Bound to be a load on the classifieds

Edit isn't Ventile meant to last decades?

My mother made me one when I was a skinny teenager because she was worried about my propensity to disappear into the hills on the bike and turn up home drenched and shivering blue in the evening.

It was cotton but pretty waterproof so I assume it must have been Ventile or similar. She modelled it on my older brother's one.

The real thing was cheap as chips from surplus stores back then.

When I was older I got a real one and wore it on my motorbike. It wasn't so waterproof on that so I painted it with rubber tyre paint. That did the trick, but then it stank. It was better than my Barbour jacket though.

My Buffalo reminds me of it - without the stink, and far far better.
