As some of you may remember, I started a eccentric thread about going into my shed to find that the thieves who stole my bike earlier this summer also stole my bike lights and a spare set of tyres.

In any case, someone on here said that they had an older set of Lupines that they weren’t using, and offered them to me for postage.

This is certainly not the first time someone on here has been extremely generous toward me (and my family), but it is one more example of how good the folk on here can be.

So in light of a substantial package I received in the post today, I wanted to say: @footflaps, you have my deepest gratitude.

To the rest of you: feel free to name and embarrass the people on here who have made a difference to you.

I can't remember who it was (shameful & I'm ashamed) but I asked about a cheap micrometer to buy & someone sent me a very decent one for nowt.

On the other hand I sent some vouchers for some dog food to someone as well.

You used ‘in light’ on purpose there didn’t you? 😀

I’ve received great advice and just general kindness from a lot of folk on here on a couple of occasions when I’ve been at very low / difficult points in my life over the last few years.

Another forumite donated a rather spiffing new Fox shock to a Santa Cruz frame that was given to me by someone else on here, that is off for a new life to a deserving cause in South Wales as soon as I can polish the thing and bung it in a box.

What goes around comes around.

A very nice man on here replied to a thread I started about losing my Bluetooth earphones, he got in touch and said I could have his, he didn't use them.

I insisted on paying but he asked that if I were determined then I should make a donation to the SSPCA so I did and he made my day.

I ran a marathon a while back and the support I received on here was one of the incentives to finish it.

Lots of lovely folk in this parish.

I honestly wouldn't know where to start. Or end for that matter. And that is the truth of it.

Enjoy the lights! I've not used them for about 8 years now, so I figure they're better off with someone else 🙂

I've done nice things and not even had a thread started about it! Or even an email reply! Hmph.

Someone sent me a Reverb hose joiner a little while ago, thanks to whoever that was! Small things count too 😀

@DezB - I am pretty sure it was you who sent me a Panaracer Mud tyre about 10-11 years ago. Pretty sure I thanked you at the time though but if not thanks!

There's been several over the years, can't remember all the names, I've had free thule bike racks fittings, chain rings, post mounts and I've had my two main bike frames from the classifieds as well as countless other parts. The most useful help I find is the people who share route advice and for me Carlos has been ace with advice around the peaks. Not only does he answer my email questions promptly but also has in the past actually taken the time to make lots of clicks on a map to make gpx files for me, one time he did 3 in one day. I hate plotting routes as it's so time consuming so I appreciate it when someone does it for me. For karma points I always try and assist others with route advice, where I can as much as possible. :):)

One of the highlights of my existence was the Ridgeway double thread from last year.  I get a bit of stick on here which is fair enough, but on that thread people actually took an interest and I got loads of support and people seemed really happy for me.  Still grin about it now.. warmest fuzziest feeling ever 🙂

@Harris wasa bloody star - he not only helped find us somewhere to park up while we went cycle touring, he then ferried us from the cars to the place where we'd left the tandems.

@pook has organised loads of pootles. they've been great

Amadeus of this parish for providing the set of cranks which have kept various bikes on the trails over the last 8 years.

Trailmonkey for apprenticing me in the dark art of navigating East Dartmoor and also for inviting me into his home to party monkey style with his wonderful family, amongst other tremendously blurry night's out.

Crispybacon - a truly inspirational secret superhero, for his guidance on west Dartmoor epics and numerous crude jokes.

Somafunk for counselling and generous emergency aid packages during my divorce.

Singlespeedstu for free SS bits and merciless banter.

STW's most infamous banned member who insisted on paying for all the booze when he came to visit us for a few days earlier this summer... A legendary force for good. Great times.

all the others who have provided cheap bits and bobs, free partworn tyres, or have just been foolhardy enough to turn up for STW rides and social events around deepest darkest Devon.

Despite being a cross, irritable and argumentative bugger recently - I have to say how much regard I hold most people here in.

I see offers of all kinds of help and assistance I haven’t seen so much elsewhere - apart from offline.  Even then, this place is a force largely for good.

One of the reasons I still exist is this place and that is no exaggeration.

Thank you.

I plan to make another, but I missed the opportunity this summer.  Next year.  And it'll be further and more difficult..!

Impressive stuff. I'm too much of a hoarder to donate stuff to other people. I keep thinking I'll have a need for that useless thing.

Though most my junk is just junk and semi-broken so I don't think I'd be helping out by giving the stuff away 😀

I’ve had a free set of brakes for my tip bike, and when I did a charity ride for Breast Cancer Awareness, absolutely loads of donations. Amazing.

On the slight downside I sent a Garmin wrist HRM for someone to try, and never heard back.
