Anyone have one or used one for long periods?
Am thinking of getting one second hand for £200-£300 - no way am I spending full wack. But there's nowhere local to try one, so I'm interested in anyone who's over 6' that might have spent a fair amount of time in one.
Are they really that good? Or do you have issues with them?
Or anything else you recommend for prolonged seatage?
TVM
we use them at work - fantastic things - I'm not 6'+ but there are a fair few in the office who use them with no problems at all. They're pretty much bombproof too - a fair number of them are at least 10 years old and you'd not know it...
(EDIT - have been using one myself for the same 10yrs+. No complaints at all, given I can be sat in it for 10+ hours a day, that's not bad going)
i used to use one at work 8+ hours a day. I didn't find it very comfortable due to the hard edge at the front of the seat. I found that this would dig in a bit.
edit: Would agree about their longevity though, they are very well built.
Just realised I am sitting in one and I'm over 6'!!!
Now I have the large size it is quite comfy before not so, not enough support under my thighs.(the size is shown by some raised dots under the top lip at the rear of the seat back - large is three dots, medium two)
they are comfy for a whole day's sitting around, they seem to last and um there's not much more you can say about an office chair.
Cool. Sounds about right from what I've heard so far. Might take a punt on a size C unless I can grab a trial somewhere.
Cheers
We used to have them at work but as mW said the hard edge at the front used to dig in my leg. Chainged to Okamura Contessa chairs which are much better IMO.
I'm 6'3" by the way.
I've got one for the study. I'm 6' and spend hours hunched over looking at, errr, 'specialist rubber and leather' sites 🙂 The old chair gave me tremendous back ache, now....nothing. Just a devil of job keeping the cat off it 🙂
I'm sure there are other chairs around that work as well...
Humanscale chairs are quite well regarded in the office furniture industry...

Second Human Scale, I nearly fell asleep within 5 mins of getting in mine. I realise they're not rockets but a quick look at the instructions (very unmanly) and you can improve the fit no end. Herman Miller great as well, think they do a re-furb service as well if you need it longer term. Look for the FIRA Ergonomics Excellence Award and you won't go far wrong. I didn't get on with my Aeron because of the under thigh support but each body is different...
Most of these companies have showrooms in London if you live close...
Make sure you're in a warm'ish environment. The mesh seat squab on the Aeron is extremely well ventilated. I've been sitting on a jumper on top of mine for the past year, it's just too chilly on it's own. Obivously better in summer, but a potential dealbreaker for colder conditions.
Other than that a fantastic chair, but I prefer the steelcase leap
