Mark's "New Forum" thread seems to be getting clogged up people doing test posts. I thought a separate thread might help, as the very poor signal:noise ratio in that thread is helping no one.

Surely every post attempt on any thread is a test?

Now let's try my old account with all the 16 years of 'luggage' attached.

Well that's gleaned a big clue. My new account posts just fine. My old account sees the delayed post issue.

My old account is full of 16 years of data piled in from the old forum. The new forum doesn't do that. But until we delete the old forum and all it's data all that 'luggage' remains attached to all the accounts. This points to a course of action of focusing on the completing the migration and then deleting all the old data.

Are there any users that don't experience this delay? This account I'm using doesn't so I'm hoping there are others.

I've just realised that I didn't need to put a time in my post as it matches the posted date & timestamp at the bottom of the post itself.

Posting (the post enters the database & is visible in the Topic Overview) is pretty snappy, but there's a delay before it shows in the thread proper.

-- Edit --

Well that turned up quickly enough to be edited 😄

Although the Edit appears to be delayed & mot showing

However, if I edit again the previous edit shows in the post edit box 🤷‍♂️

Now all is revealed - it's looking hopeful 👍

My reply just up there andmy second post on "my" thread both just took about 10 min

edit - this one was v quick though.

With the otheres, as said above,  Posting (the post enters the database & is visible in the Topic Overview) is pretty snappy, but there's a delay before it shows in the thread proper.

As far as I can tell the new forum hasn’t fixed any of the issues with the last one, the only real issues I ever experienced were delays in loading pages and that still seems to happen now, but with a host of other far worse issues.

I think from this it's fairly apparent that the posts are being committed to the database immediately, all the time stamps match.  Rather, it's pulling them out again which is the issue, it's a delay in availability.

Delay is random for me, they can appear instantly and other times take around 15 minutes. Then other times they appear instantly then disappear for around 15 minutes.

The picture I posted looks normal when viewed on my phone but stretched sideways when viewed on my PC.

Edit.

And this posted instantly.

Double Edit.

But the edit didn't.

13 seconds to refresh, jump to the top, shows that I was the latest post. But nothing showing at bottom of thread..... FAIL

Weird. As it seemed to be working yesterday

EDIT. Did a refresh of page after 10 minutes and my reply was there.

EDIT #2: My first edit appeared instantaneously on the original post in the thread in the right place. Seems only the initial post got delayed

So frustrating! The post above appeared within 20secs of clicking add reply (and is visible to me), but a reply I made in reeky's 'Call a Lawyer' thread about 5 mins ago hasn't appeared for me. Total hit or miss for me in success of posting.

The picture I posted looks normal when viewed on my phone but stretched sideways when viewed on my PC.

Whenever I see a stretched image it seems to be hosted on Flikr. Though obviously, correlation does not automatically imply causation.

Is there any way to adjust the size of the image (other than resizing it offline) ?

Whenever I see a stretched image it seems to be hosted on Flikr.

But in twenty odd years I've been using Flickr it's never been a problem for me and still isn't when viewed on my phone.

Just when viewed on my PC.
