Some northern oiks are heading to the big smoke.

We are driving down as we are doing London for the day then off to see some friends for a night so the train is not an option.

Where’s a good place to park for the day with easy access to the west end / central touristy stuff. Do we stop by a tube station somewhere a bit further out or do we just drive in to the centre and get rimmed for parking costs? And if I was to be shafted any ideas where?
All help appreciated?

This at a weekend?

Quite a few areas in North London you can park on the resi streets for free. Then walk to a tube station etc... This however isn't 100% guaranteed 😆

Barretts Green Rd, NW10 7AE

Parked there a few times. It's and industrial type area, free and about 2 minutes from the nearest train station.

I used to live on Shepherds Hill (N6) and still park there when visiting.

It's next to Highgate Tube for the Northern Line.

Directions from the north:
M1
A1
Turn left.

Can't get easier than that!

The bit immediately around Highgate station is more heavily restricted these days (8.30-6.30) - drive a bit further along though and you hit Crouch End B CPZ and that's 10-12 weekdays only.

By driving I am saving loads on the train but will have less time so I am prepared to get shafted to a certain extent, how much would I pay to park for the day right in the centre, as in within a mile of Piccadilly, then I could also ditch the tube fair, is this even possible?

Park Lane car park is £4 per hour up to £24 for the day, NCPs are generally more expensive. Parking on the street is a pain in comparison in the centre.

i would not drive in to london as you would sit in traffic more then you would do anything else it would be best to come in to london from the a1 and find some where to park near the northern tube line or Piccadilly tube line alternatively you could come round the 406 or m25 a bit to mine in romford park on drive at mine my local station in 15 mins walk and travel to city of london is 20 mins where there are tube links in to the west end.
i also have a gold card that you borrow that would get up to 4 people when presented travel cards for all of london for the day for £5.60 each.

Brewer Street NCP (minute or two walk from Piccadilly) is £7/hour or £47/day. Most around there are similar.

Street parking around there is about £3.30 an hour, 8.30-6.30, Mon-Sat. Usually easier to find bays on the western side of Regent St.

You can park all day at Highgate tube for £4, prob want to get there before 0900 so maybe tight. Otherwise drive down to our place in Crouch End, we've got day passes for the CPZ, doesnt cost you anything. From Crouch End its a fast bus to Finsbury Park, then Victoria or Picadilly Line to the West End, will take about half hour.

Look at residential streets near zone 3 stations and assess it from there. Its clear that lots of people do this in my street as we have no controled parking yet are 20 mins on the tube from Leicester Square. I'll not give you an exact location as I don't want to add to our problem here!

Make sure whichever Car Park you find is Outside the congestion zone -

I tend to use the car park at Euston . Always get a space and can jump on the tube to anywhere!

Thanks for all the tips and offers of driveways. Eustom sounds good or somewhere up the northern line a bit as we will be going to the National Portrait Gallery first.

Newport Place WC2 is only £6 per hour plus the Congestion Charge and fun of getting there. Slap bang in China Town in the West End. Bargain or not depends.
