Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody here can shed a little light on a modification I'd like to make to my kitchen window. We have a large window that is hinged on either side and pushes out at the bottom ("top hung" I belive is the trade description). I'd like to change it to a side hung window so the hinges are top and bottom and it opens from the right outwards.

Is it possible? I've looked at the construction of the pvc itself and there are slots for the hinge tracks to bolt too all the way around the window and frame. Can I simply remove all the hinges and furniture and refit with new side hung hinges and new locks?

I know i'd be left with surplus holes where the original handle was mounted at the bottom of the window, but I was thinking of leaving a dummy handle fitted to fill them.

Am I missing anything? Anybody else done this? any advice?

Thank you.

I can't help with your question, but suggest having a look here, http://www.diynot.com/forums/, if no-one comes up with an answer here.

Depending on size, you can get a new window fitted for £150-£250.
Hinges will probably cost £20 plus handles plus locking mech plus labour =
new window
