Looking for some knowledge as I know tons of you have kids that ride - my 9 year old is a tall and skinny 5 foot and has now well outgrown his 20 inch Scott hardtail.

Im thinking that rather than buy a new Evans / Halfords style hardtail and get ripped off we look for something in 26 inch frame with quality components 2nd hand he can grow into.

Has anyone done this with good results or am I dreaming? Also any ideas on other stuff would be appreciated.

Big thanks

Dave

Lots of ideas here:

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/bike-forum/bike-recommendation-for-10yr-old/

FWIW my two youngest are 150-ish cm apiece, older one (12) on a xs adult 27.5 full sus.

Younger (10) on a small adult 26er.

Both have droppers (which are very much a good idea) and size specific cranks.

I'd be wary of shoving a kid from 20" to 27.5 or bigger, personally I don't think they can manoeuvre the wheels around too well. 26 should work well, and it's cheap buying at the present.
