I’m after a bit of guidance on setting up multiple devices with my ITunes account.
I’ve got an IPhone all set up happily and working fine and for a while now have also been connecting my daughter and son’s ipod touch to the same library.
Now apart from a few vagaries in syncing music which I can handle that side is ok. The problem is with using messaging and wotnot.
My daughter wants to use here iPod to send the odd message and be able to Face time me when I’m away and also her uncle (all supervised) and although I’ve created an email account for her whenever she sends messages and tries to Face time she appears as my ID.
So is it possible to have the two devices (in time the third will also be used) using the same library but operating as two distinct devices?
Previously I’ve been ok with all this ITunes stuff but things are now starting to get away from my crude grasp of technical bobbins!
Ta.
I reckon you could do it by simply setting up a new itunes account and sign in with, I imagine reseting the device might be required but with the phones you can sign out on the device, so maybe you can do that without a reset...you then set the ipod again using that login.
Obviously you'll need to login/log-out to use the individual devices.
Also you could (not tried lately) setup a itunes accounts without a credit card attached, it's not obvious, but tutorials are available online.
on your phone/ipod go to:
settings>messages>send/receive and/or settings>facetime
allows you to decide which phone numbers or emails on your icloud/itunes account are associated with that device. disable all the ones you don't want.
if you want to put on restrictions on what can be bought/changed on a device look in general>restrictions. you can completely disable itunes store or set it to always ask for a password.
what they said, Sam and shane both use my a/c as separate users. I set them up with their own user accounts as well so thay only have their crap on itunes...
My wife's iPhone shares my iTunes account so when I faced time her I do it via the phone number. When my dad face times me her phone as well as my phone, our ipad and Mac all ring together. It's the iTunes account that ties it altogether. Any email address will be associated with your iTunes account.
A little known thing in email address that you can create 'mulitple' addresses on one address by adding +nnn to the address, so I have russianbon+iphone@email.com and russianbob+imac@email.com and russianbob+ipad@email.com. Then I can set each device to respond to their individual calls, but I only need to have one itunes account - russianbob@email.com.
I realise I haven't explained this very well. SOrry.
Cheers all, will see if I can work out what all of the above means when I have iTunes open in front of me :o)
