I'm currently on an Apple SE but have a lot of photo-worthy travelling coming up. While no fanboi, I'm well ensnared in the Apple ecology (desktop, laptop, tablet). So, do I bite and go for the Apple XS, handover all my data to the Chinese state with the Huawei Mate Pro, or become the commodity and give my data-life to Google's ad-servers for the Pixel 3?
Curveball option, might a compact camera still be worth it?
I'd be tempted to get small camera as I often find the lack of optical zoom on phones is a bit rubbish when somewhere nice.
Pixel 2 or XL from appliances direct is 399... I'd get that and spend the change on travel. Camera is excellent.
Pixel 3 and a secondhand Fuji X10
I've just recently brought a new phone and I looked at the Huawei. But I'm just a point and click type of photo taker and the reviews I read was the Samsung was better for that and that's what I went for, though the Huawei does seem to take great night pictures.
EOS 750D?

Better pics if they are worth taking and less than either phone
I have the Huawei P20 pro and therefore the Chinese government will know all the fascinating intimate details of my life.
But the camera is absolutely stunning - it has optical as well as digital zoom (the optical is only 2x, I think) and the resolution is quite incredible
A great screen also helps when viewing the pics you take...
I've just bought a pocophone F1 and plan to load the pixel experience rom.
Same sensor as the pixel 3 and with the same camera app, just the job. For half the price.
HMD have got the PureView brand for their Nokia phones now, so there's now the Nokia 9 PureView

With five 12MP cameras (2 RGB, 3 B&W) plus a 20MP front.
I have a Sony RX100 III compact and I just cannot get to grips with it. Soft for landscapes and cannot get it take on auto (sometimes I just want to point and click).
I looked for a replacement, couldn't find anything that suitable sub £800 (and nothing truly 'compact') so I ended up buying a Huawei P20 (likewise, I'm well known to the chinese government 😉 ). I love it, use it all the time and sure its all AI but i'm happier with shots from it than the Sony most of the time and the low light stuff is truly amazing.
The Pro looks even better, I'd probably spring for one of them if i was going to be buying again soon.
Cheers all – went for the Pixel 2 XL in the end. Pocophone F1 a great idea, but lack of NFC for payment put me off. Lots of other good ideas but price and that I'm an Android noob phone swung it.
Nice phones, and pretty good value now the 3 is out. Sure you'll get on well with it.
