So one of my huge joys is playing minecraft with my daughter (creative mode) ... we have a map and have made a brilliant little town in it - buildings, dens, machines etc etc....
She was playing by herself, and went on 'an adventure' and is basically lost. In what I assume is an infinite tile world...
I rejoined the game with her recently , but spawned next to her in the middle of nowhere.
I've litereally no idea where our buildings/town are, and TBH we're both a bit sad 🙁
Is there any way of getting a map of the whole world at all, as I reckin i'd be able to spot our buildings from a birds eye view... i can't create a map in game that shows the WHOLE world...
Help 🙁

Been there!
If gaining achievements doesn’t matter, go to creative mode, turn on coordinates, note your location and then fly in spirals until you see your area.
If achievements matter, that makes creative mode a no go and things a bit harder.
Turn on coordinates so you know where you are now - that means your lostness can’t get worse.
How long was she playing for - that sets a limit on how far she can have travelled. I would spiral from that position looking for signs she passed through an area - trees down, whatever.
It is also possible (easier on PC mind) to make a copy of the world, make that copy creative, fly around that until you find your stuff, note your coordinates and then go back to your original world.
The world isn't infinite, it's not even all that big on PS4 (although it's far bigger on PS5). You need to make a map - this you have to 'fill in' as you go by visiting the map, but it will show you where you are in the world so you can systematically sweep. It discovers a circle around your location so it will show you where villages and biomes are without you directly having to see them on your screen.
Don't ask me how to make one 🙂
As Markie says, turn on coordinates and try to get back to 0,0,0... that should be the initial world spawn point.
It's strange that you have jumped in right next to your daughter though, as you should come it at your last respawn point, which should be the world spawn point, or the last bed you slept in...
And that's the possible other way of doing it... turn it off creative then once you die you should respawn at your respective spawn points... assuming those haven't been changed by sleeping in beds.
If you're in creative mode can't you fly up and then look down? Or has she literally flown too far for that to work?
It's probably a bit late but for future reference one of the recommended things to do is build a tower / beacon above the trees that means you can always see "home".
molgrips... I think the world size is effectively infinite, it's something like 30 million blocks in any direction from the world spawn point, but am not sure it wraps at that point or just stops. It might take a while to travel that far to test out!
Another option is to make a compass.. that always points to the world spawn point...

Don't think so, I'm pretty sure we've found the edge.
My son showed me how to make a map in the world he was in the other day. I’ve literally never played Minecraft so feigned some sort of supportive interest… might have been better for the OP if I actually had taken notice.
...assuming those haven’t been changed by sleeping in beds...
We did sleep in beds. Hence the compass simply point back to our [lost location] beds!!
Also, the map draw isn't good enough (i don't think) for me to fly high and look...
She plays on iPad, I play on Xbox or PC... i'll turn on co-ordinates and see if either 00,00 is findable...or if it starts at that, I'll fly in a spiral..
I freaked myself out onece as we built a portal to the nether... then ran about in teh nether for a bit, then built ANOTHER portal in the nether to get back, not realising that it's something like "1 block in the nether is 8 blocks in the real world", so re cam out of a portal miles away (again)!!!
thanks all, will try these this weekend!

I got really confused with compasses... as I thought they pointed back to your bed, but they do actually point to the world spawn point (0,0,0) not the players own spawn point (last bed).
And yes, the Nether can be fun like that, but also very useful for moving large distances in the over world...

do they now.........
Hmmm........

That is why i usually build not to far off the world spawnpoint, so a compass can help you home.
But not played non modded for a very long time.
Can you not just flip to survival mode, die and re-spawn back where you last slept? (minus anything you had on you). IANAME
No help now but I always build an insanely tall tower covered in torches for this exact reason. Playing with my son is like virtual slave labour. Sends me off mining and resource finding whilst he frolicks about 😂
we slept in a bed after getting lost. not sure why. she probably made a cute bedroom for us!

My kids just suggested the same as above (flip to survival mode and die) but break your new beds first and it reset your spawn point to 0,0,0 where you first spawned.
If I remember correctly if you make a compass the needle points back to your last set spawn point (wherever the last bed you slept in is).
Edit: just seen your post about sleeping in a bed.
When this happened to us we built a new settlement and noted the coordinates.
This just reinforces my lack of desire to play computer games! I just don’t have the sort of mindset for them, and the very real possibility I’ll end up in DrP’s situation, which would drive me nuts. And pull my hair out, if I had hair to pull out!
Still playing Mercenary on the Atari.
Bang upto date me 🙂
Possible suggestion - if you've ever died in or near your homebase and no where else since, then you can get a recovery compass from creative and use that to direct you to where you last died.
