Wow that it tricky to read
Haa hah, it was the phone.
There is no way it shouldn't connect to the wifi - wrong character on the password ? Are you setting it up or is the impatient 'teen' doing it (I have two of those 'teen' creatures).
Does the iPhone connect to wifi when in the same room as the router?
Router firmware up to date?
Delete the WiFi network from the phone (settings > WiFi > network name > forget this network). Reboot phone and the re connect while in the room with the router.
Fossy, connects when downstairs but kicks him off without warnin<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20.4px;">g when in his bedroom.</span>

You using a booster or extension access point in the house OP? This should have a different wi-fi name to the main router. So if router SSI is Langylad-wifi, then the extension/booster should be langylad-ext-wifi.
A left-field cause may be a poor connection to the antenna in the phone after a battery replacement.
If it's not connecting when in the same room as the router then it's most likely a phone problem. (Unless you have MAC address filtering enabled on the router with block all unauthorised set).
No to booster or extension Sandwich, connects slightly better downstairs but none existent in bedroom. Phone is a referb with 12 months guarantee, think I need to take it back?
Yes, I had an iPad that would only connect if close to any router, whereas Iphone in the same room was fine. I swapped it - new Ipad fine. Send it back.
So it is actually connecting and it's just the performance which is bad? Most likely a hardware fault then I'm afraid.
Would be interested how you get on with warranty on a refurb - my refurb phone is a Sony, not an Apple, but also supposedly has a warranty and the battery performance has become woeful, I'm wondering what response I'll get on that if I take it back.
Just don't suggest spending more time downstairs, he will really lose it!
Yeah, take it back. Fib and say you've tried it at a relatives house and same problem or you might get fobbed off.
Aracer, apparently the warranty is 12 months, same as a new iPhone. Funnily enough we sent the original referb back because the battery was crap, got an instant replacement as was within 2 weeks.
I bloody hate Apple but rest of family insist on them
Good idea poop, will do
Did the same person configure the phone as coded this new forum?
Try changing the channel on the router and see if that has any effect.
If it's cack in the same room, the phone is the culprit. Hope the relationship is soon repaired.
“Did the same person configure the phone as coded this new forum?”
What do you mean? Anyone who suggests all that markup is anything other than the peak of design gets told to stop whining smartish
Will give it a go Davesport, thanks for the suggestions Sandwich, appreciated
Just a sec, so the phone connects fine downstairs but then loses signal in his bedroom?
If so, signal is too week, what bars are showing in both locations?
Can you do the same test with a different type of device?
BT homehub?
if so disable the 5ghz channel and just use 2.4
I blame Faraday
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 20.4px;">good news folks, his signal has improved and we are speaking once more. peterno, i tried my iphone in his room and the bars dropped down, think it may be the concrete floor as is over the <span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20.4px;">gara</span><span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20.4px;">ge</span>
The illegible last post (from laptop) was just a thanks to all for ideas, particularly Sandwich whose idea seems to have worked😀
makes more sense from my iPhone
