excuse my naivete in this...
been running about 2 or 3 times a week since xmas, 3 - 5miles. ran sat a.m. about 5 miles, stretched after, no probs. later in the day went surfing. that evening noticed soreness in the muscles at the top of the back of my thighs.
ran again mon night, 5 miles, sore enough there to feel it all the way round but not painful.
now i thought ham strings were around your knees, the bit that hurts like billy-o when you stretch it, but a google search yesterday showed me otherwise.
so presuming it is my hamstrings that are a bit sore, what should i be doing to sooth/cure/prevent?
I'm no running expert but 2 things that are unclear are a) ate you stretching before and b) do you have the right shoes for your gait?
You shouldn't be stretching before running.
Get yourself a foam roller: They really work.
no stretching before, yes for shoes.
I'm no running expert
Well I proved my own point! Very sorry; I have always warmed up/stretched calves before running, maybe that's why I'm rubbish.
Yep your ham strings go all the way up to near your bum. Start and finish your runs with a few minutes slower jog then have a really good stretch after and as above you could try a foam roller. Don't increase your distance/amount of running/speed too quickly.
