After telling me he wanted a cheap UK based stag-do, my friend has performed a complete about-face and decided he is desperate to go to Europe instead.

Does anyone have any reccomendations based on the following important criteria:

1) Cheap
2) Stuff to do
3) Minimal chance of being robbed/extorted etc.

Help very gratefully received.

1) Cheap - The moment you start flying it stops being cheap, IME. So....
2) Stuff to do - Brussels or Paris
3) Minimal chance of being robbed/extorted etc. - Brussels or Paris

Of course, depends where you are, but the Eurostar is such a treat for getting to either Brussles or Paris. Both are lovley cities with enough good stuff and enough grot to keep you amsued for a weekend.

Failing that,
Amsterdam - a bit of a cliché, I agree, but apart from the central grot light district, it's a cracking place!
Barcelona - Lovely city for a weekend, stag or otherwise
Munich - Why not! Big steins of lager, big jugs etc.
Just not Frankfurt. It's a dump.

Good advice, thanks. Not my choice iDave, i'm afraid. Paris sounds lovely in principle, but I imagine it would be very expensive to drink.

Yep, far nicer to find one of the lovely little lunchrooms reound behind Dam Square in the Nes area.

But as above, the red light bit is fun for about five minutes then it's rather dull (return later in the evening to catch a show, though....) and the city itself is a joy! Hire bikes, ride everywhere.

Do you really want drunken, vomiting, fighting yobs on a stag do making it more difficult for us Brits who live here?

Clearly I'm using sweeping generalisations and stereotyping here and I'm sure the OP isn't like that and some have already got that. 😉

I hated Amsterdam at night, all the junkie zombies come out and start eyeing your bags, following you around shops etc. During the day it's amazing.

Don't dismiss Brussels quite so easily I love the place there are some great bars if you like dark quirky and surrealist and the drink is good and cheap and the locals friendly and generally english speaking. Don't think I have ever sat in a bar in Belgium without meeting somebody local.

Last time I went on a night out in Madrid two of us got robbed, my whole bag and one girls credit card. Mind you when we realised what had happened we were a bit daft, the girls distracted us with chat while the boys took our stuff.

Like he said, go to Leidseplein. Keep the yobs in one place where we know to avoid them.

Should come to the Basque country, drunken fighting/vomiting is the national sport here. I feel very much at home. In fact, if the stag do is soon, go to a Cider house near San Sebastian and then join the thousands of pissed up Basques in Hernani. Great fun.

We went to Heidelberg for mine (really cos I had lived there and loved it). It proved to be an awesome place. Not that expensive, hostel supercheap, central and nice. Also, there's a hill behind for biking/walking/going up on funicular. Loads of history, great place, great amounts of hot girls and tons of pubs.

The Basques I know, while hard as nails, are quite civilized.

not if you know the right bars, if you stay away from the obvious sh*t holes, any irish bars etc you will be fine.

it's a stag wekeend at the end of the day, your not going to be pressing flowers and going to the opera!
