What do people recommend for protection for outside activities?

I have got mine in a griffin survivor all terrain.
Think it was £14 of eBay.
Not as bombproof as their 4s offering but good enough.
It has a thin plastic over the home key for fingerprint recognition but providing you don't use your thumbnail to press the button it's fine.

Lifeproof - nothing better in the real world.
Otterbox and Griffin make them into a bulky lump that is a pain to get into your pocket because of the silicon parts. They have a habit of rubbing the phones case too whilst in there.
The Lifeproof Fre covers the screen too.
The Lifeproof Nuud leaves the screen free and a lot brighter and they provide a screen protector that fits into the space perfectly.
Make sure you get an original Lifeproof though. They are so good that the fakes market is massive 0 ok if you only want the knock protection. Shit if you want the waterproof protection.
The originals are so good that Mattbee's 4 went through the wash and was perfect.
My 6 has got wet loads and there's not a mark on it inside either.
The iPhone 5 thats going in the classifieds tonight went in one in the Apple shop and you'd struggle to know it wasn't brand new 9 months later.

I bought an Otterbox when I first got my 6+, and while it does give good impact protection, it is very bulky, and the built-in screen protector is, frankly, crap; it bows upwards so you have to apply a fair amount of pressure, which is just bloody annoying! I ripped mine out, cleaned the adhesive off and put on a cheap eBay toughened glass protector, which is much, much better, very slick, and good to use. It doesn't go right to the edge, but then it was a tenth the price of ones that do.
I've had the phone out of the case a few times, dust and lint gets in, waterproofing is a joke, non-existent, but after more than a year of use, the phone is still perfect.
Next time I upgrade, to a 7+, I'll look at another make, not impressed with the Otterbox at all.

I keep mine in a plastic ziplock bag inside a pocket in my camelback. To be honest I wouldn't dream of keeping a £600+ phone anywhere it's likely to take a knock.

It's not a question of where you keep the thing, it's what happens when it's in your hands and actually using it!
I've dropped mine a couple of times, in fact when I took it out of the case the other day I noticed a piece had been chipped off the corner of the glass screen protector, no idea at all how or when that happened.
I dropped my previous iP5 putting it back in my pocket walking down a steep lane in Devon, a month after I bought it, and watched it cartwheel half a dozen times on the rough Tarmac!
Fortunately it had a cheap basic plastic protector case on, so only took a couple of tiny little marks on the baseplate.
I'm surprised I've not dropped the thing half a dozen times using it at gigs with the crowd pushing and shoving.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've ordered a Lifeproof Fre Power which will hopefully do the job. It's not so much about cycling, more hiking so less risk of impact damage and more about protection from the elements.
