Does any one know what this feature is?
I borrowed a Garmin once that had a facility to plan a ride from where ever I was, all I had to do was put in how far I wanted to go and how fast or for how long and it set a route for me on the device, is this the same feature?

No, the course creator lets you put in destinations or pick from a map, and it plans a route - like a car sat nav, my Edge Explore has it (as did my Touring previously). The feature you are talking about comes up as 'Round Trip Course' on my Edge Explore. I've not tried it, as I've not been anywhere unfamiliar with it. On the Touring the results were laughable, but routing is drastically improved on the new model because it uses Trailforks popularity so there's a good chance it's a lot better.
I'll give it a try now.
