... from going bad. Have brought a cheap picnic bench which I am not convinced is made from exterior grade wood. What can I paint on it to give it some protection? Ideally something I can also use on my shed which hasn't received any love since I brought it 7 years ago.

I was recommended Rye Oils decking oil. Haven’t tried it yet but it was delivered the other day in a 25l container, they do smaller ones too.

I've got some oak outside that has been perfectly protected by Wilkos lacquer. Maybe use penetrating oil first.
