This may not exist, but I want something tough but with a bit of stretch to repair the crotch of some trousers that are themselves stretchy, but weren't tough enough. Tons of Cordura etc on eBay but it doesn't see to have any stretch. Not sure what else I should be searching for. Any ideas?

I think I need some stretch otherwise trying to sew it to a stretchy fabric is going to be difficult, I think?

Is there a pocket you can sacrifice, so you can use the exact same fabric?

Or do you (or a mate) have any worn-out garrments in a suitable fabric, which you can cut up?

You want a polyamide / nylon double weave softshell fabric with stretch - it'll have some elastane content probably for the stretch. You don't want polyester as it's not as durable. The higher the weight of the fabric, the thicker and most likely tougher it'll be.

The existing fabric wasn't really tough enough at all.

I have a pair of tough trousers that would be perfect, but given that they are tough they haven't worn out so I don't want to cut them up 🙂

Ta BWD.

You can sew non-stretch to stretch and it works reasonably well, I've got trousers like that, but it does have to be stitched well. One pair went where they two bits met - the stretchy fabric was weaker when stretched than the non-stretchy and so the stitching let go.

Could not find this - all the softshell seems to be polyester.
