Hi,
I'm sure there is one but I can’t seem to find it. I’m after a 2 gang surface mounted standard double socket so I can run an extension from a single socket and use a faceplate of my choice. Do they exist?
Thanks
Do you mean to hardwire a spur off a socket?
I don't understand the question...
You want to convert a single socket to a surface mounted double, and still use a clip on faceplate?
Yes. I want to be able to plug an extension to a single socket but have a surface mounted ‘standard’ socket with a normal double faceplate.
is it a patress box you need?
THat would be part of it, but if I use a normal faceplate I’d have to have the ring in then out rather than a glorified extension lead as I’d like.
Where do you want the cable to exit the double socket?
From a practical point of view the face plate you're after is a normal double socket face plate unless you want the cable to exit the centre of that plate or something. As for the other end you're just after a normal three pin plug on a suitable length of T&E. So really this is a routing thing rather than a kit thing no?
Yep, standard 3 pin 13 amp plug from the single going to a surface mounted pattress. I guess my issue is how to wire the double from this as I guess it would ordinarily be wired in to the ring?
It'll just wire in as if you're wiring a normal plug socket on the end of spur unless I'm missing something? There is no mandatory "out" on a socket, it's just a dumb terminal.
So live in to live terminal neutral/phase to neutral and earth to earth.
Ah ok, I’ll give it a go. Thanks all.
Do you want woofers and tweeters?

No offence but it doesn't sound like you have a particularly good idea of what you are doing.

My first question would be why you want to plug in a mounted box.

My second is how you don't know you can just spur that off.

clipsal make single to double and double to triple socket converters that fit into the existing back box to save chasing out the wall and fitting a new back box. You have to remove the existing face plate then terminate the cables into the back of the converter socket is all (with power off😉).
They stick out about twice as much as standard sockets though but save a bit of fad.
Yep, standard 3 pin 13 amp plug from the single going to a surface mounted pattress.
I think I know what you mean and I think your issue is cable retention. Surface mount boxes and switch plates are intended for use with concealed cabling so there is no way of anchoring the cable to stop it being pulled out. Why
The 'right' solution here would be an extension lead that you wall mount (it's pretty easy to find ones that have a couple of holes in the back that you slide over a pair of screws to hold it in place. Off the shelf, no wiring to do.
