Other than cod/haddock in batter or smoked salmon I've never really got on with fish.

Although on holiday in the Maldives I ate grilled fish every day, quite meaty, thinly sliced and well cooked. I really liked it but had no idea what it was.

I'd like more fish in my life - any suggestions / simple recipes?

Thanks

You could try going to the fish counter in your local supermarket or high street. They will help you out, one thing they do now is when they sell you the fish they will put it in bag which you can just bung in the oven, they may even offer to put in a sauce as well. I am not saying it is the best way but it will be a good start. It is also not that expensive.

Use the above site, there is also a very simple app to help you choose fish that aren't yet on the verge of extinction.

Although they probably will be soon enough.

Asda do some really nice smoked salmon fillets. They still need cooking like normal salmon fillets but are a little firmer in texture than normal and taste lovely 🙂

I'm a big fan of monkfish on a BBQ.
In fact most fish over an open fire is good, squeeze of lime and you're done.

yoshimi - roughly crush a load of black peppercorns with a pestle and morter, and I mean LOTS! Then get salmon fillets and completely coat it in the crushed pepper. You can't have too much.

Then get a pan or a griddle ridiculously hot, and flash fry the salmon for a couple of minutes each side, serve with plenty of hollandaise sauce, new potatoes, and asparagus

Scallops & bacon or black pudding. Nom nom nom.

Loads of great fish out there.

Trout stuffed with lemon slices and herbs then wrapped in newspaper, soaked in a bucket of cold water and barbecued is good. Like a steamed texture with bbg flavour. Bit of a faff.

Grilled sardines
Fresh Mackerel or similar oily fish coated in porridge oats (egg and flour to help bind together)nd fried in plenty of oil.

My current favourite fish dish is one HRH does at home.

She uses Tilapia or Haddock fillets, although the Tilapia is nicer.

First, she cuts the fillets into larg-ish pieces.

Then marinades the pieces in lime juice with a bit of water, for several hours if poss.

When ready to cook, take each fillet out of the marinade and coat in plain flour (with grated lime zest mixed in with it), then drop into pre-heated oil and deep-fry until golden brown.

Nice eaten with chilli dipping sauce.

Maldives...sea bass? Is a meaty white fish, and rather delicious grilled.

Any meaty fish fillet (I like halibut), brush with a 50/50 mix of olive oil and lemon juice with some chopped fresh parsley if available.

Pop under grill on some foil. Cook.

Cook / prepare some sides (I like rice and salad).

Enjoy with a glass of cold lager.

Just like being on holiday!

You like the taste of mercury ?.

Stick to the tinned Tuna, lower amounts of toxins.

Whats wrong with that?

Meat = flesh of animals, whale is an animal, all fish are animals too.

Or were you referring to whales not being fish?

Absolute piece of pee to cook, but delicious. I cook it for just over 15 minutes rather than the 12 in the recipe, and have never bothered doing the noodles 'by the book'. Works with trout or salmon.

Trout is my favourite fish. Dead easy to cook - just season, add a wedge of lemon, a knob of butter, wrap in tin foil and bake. And grilled plaice... with loads of butter and capers.

Damn it i've made myself hungry.

I forgot to say - I actually really like sushi - which is clearly weird and goes against my general fear of fish!

Some really great replies here - most importantly, there's a lot that sounds tasty and interesting

I really like the idea of trying this one........

Not a big fish fan either, too much haddock in white sauce at school as a kid.
Do love sushi though.
Favourite mackerel recipe is as follows, catch mackerel with rod and reel, bash on head (put it out it's misery), bite.

Swordfish in a tomato and basil sauce is my favourite, either that or pan fried sea bream.

Fish is absolutely disgusting.
Fish from the sea tastes like a bag of salt, freshwater fish tastes like mouldy old socks.

Vile stuff. I can't imagine why anyone who had a choice would want to eat it.
