I normally connect my laptop (Panasonic Toughbook CF-18) to my router via an Openzone hotspot it broadcasts, which has a restricted bandwidth.

Seeing as I'm at home and pretending to do some computer based training, I want to get it to connect properly.

My router is a BT HomeHub 2, it is using WPA/WPA2. My laptop prompts for 'Wifi encryption mode' listing 'None, WEP, TKIP, AES' and then Wifi Authentication Mode listing 'Open, Shared, Auto, WPA, WPA PSK, WPA2, WPA2 PSK'.

So the first hurdle is to overcome this...unfortunately the laptop is so bogged down with crappy software it takes about 5 minutes between attempts so I'll be here for hours trying all the combinations!

Might be a lot quicker and easier to plug it in with a flylead

Your BT Home hub documents/instructions need to tell you that information. It's not possible to guess!

Yeh thats an option but would be nice to get it working on Wifi, there are so many passwords and prompts (and error messages) that I usually have the laptop in the kitchen whilst making my breakfast and lunch.

Off the top of my head, four username entries, four passwords, one random keyfob number, three error messages and then the VPN client chucks out around three error messages during the connection being established. Oh, and a splash screen warning me about the dangers of using an incorrectly adjusted CRT monitor, and a program that throws up an error on every startup. And it takes 40 minutes to do the above 🙁

Dez, it seems to be additional info, to connect a normal laptop/smartphone I just set it to WPA, punch in the key and away we go. I'm wondering if my laptop doesn't support WPA as it only lists 'None, WEP, TKIP, AES' in the first box, but then it lists WPA as an option on the subsequent box.

Using AES and WPA2 I get the following prompts:

802.1x Options: text field prefilled with 1.
802.1x EAP Type: prefilled with TTLS, others are MD5, PEAP, TLS.
" " Root Certificate: cert_store://ROOT.
" " Trusted Certificates: text field, blank.
" " Client Certificate: text field, blank.
" " Private Key: text field, blank. Tried my hubs security key...
" " EAP Phase 2 Type: PAP, others are MSCHAP, MSCHAP V2, CHAP.
Network Outer Identity: text field, anonymous.
802.1x Credentials: Supplied, others are Windows, Machine, Windows (No Domain).
Network Username: Tried my employee number
Network Password: Tried my employee password

Connection still fails...

I think I'll just give up!
