She's always wanted a nice watch, but we've never really been able to spank out for one. Fortuitously, I'm coming in to a little bit of spare cash in the lead up to our 10th anniversary, so I'm thinking of fulfilling this wish for her. She's looked at Tag's wistfully in the past, as well as Longine's and also the ceramic Chanel (white, J12 I think?), so I have an idea of what she likes.

I was thinking maybe of looking secondhand/vintage, perhaps to get better bang for your buck and maybe something a bit different? She's quite petite and has a tiny wrist, so whatever we go for has to suit that aspect. Probably silver/white gold rather than gold as well, and doesn't have to have gemstones.

Budget is probably up to AUD$3k (so around GBP$1650). Any and all ideas/suggestions welcomed chaps, appreciate your input 🙂

Tags are pretty much overpriced in the most part and the aftercare stories I've heard aren't great(although no personal experience)

Your budget should get you a Pre-owned Rolex bear in mind that the Ladies models are not as easily available 2nd hand, however there should be quite a few of the older Explorer or Air King available.

Regards new Oris are worth a look too and if she like the Chanel J12 then some of the Rado models are maybe worth a look too.

The Cartier does look nice, though she's not necessarily a fan of square watches. She has a Swatch already ha ha.

Any tips/suggestions on buying secondhand? It would most likely be sight unseen as I'm here in Oz and I'm guessing the best deals would be in UK/US? Budget could stretch a bit if need be, maybe up to £2k-£2.5k or thereabouts for something special.

Cheers for the comments so far, appreciated 🙂

IIRC, you're in Melbourne. A quick Google search later.....

Got to be worth a look.

Cheers CFH, I'll take a gander at them. I'm oop north in the hot tropics (Townsville), but Melbourne is only a flight away ha ha.

Quick bump to see if anyone else has some input, thought expensive watch threads were all the rage round here! 😉

Ah! A little further afield then. Not sure where I got Melbourne from then!

If you get a Cartier Tank, try to go for the automatic version (I think it might just be in the larger size) - qwartz watches at that kind of price are, IMO, a bit of a rip off! I think the quartz ones have a plain white face and the auto has a slightly textured face - its subtle, but you'll see what I mean when you look at them.

My mrs has the Tank auto - it's lovely, and not overlarge. One of these:
