I've reached the level of mental degeneration where I need help from strangers to buy socks 🙁
For wearing in hiking boots, standing around in north of UK or occasional trips to Scandi -and. Merino preferred. I looked on Amazon at Danish Endurance but they get pretty mixed reviews. I looked at Darn Tough but 30 quid for a pair of socks? I was on the point of buying some on sale from LD Mountain Centre but they charge 5 quid postage which is ridiculous.
Ideas ?
Weirdest go fund me I've seen yet

I have the non-hiking version and they are lovely socks as far as socks go. 🙂
Try Nordic Socks, I like them!
I got 3 pairs of Danish Endurance socks about 18 months ago and no signs of wear yet despite them being worn most days. I would definitely buy more and Sportpursuit might have them too. My other half has some Brasher socks that are also lasting well, probably a bit more expensive.
Mountain Warehouse do nice merino socks for £17.99, buy one get on free so cheap cheap.
Have a look for Lorpen or Teko socks on sale. Both are excellent.

I've got some Teko socks and they're nice when new but not as good as the Danish ones. And one pair it threadbare relatively quickly.
IME Danish Endurance wear well and are comfy. Their thick merino walking/hiking socks are good.

Got some of the Mountain warehouse ones mentioned above too. Pretty decent but a lot thinner than the DE ones I have.
I bought some Darn Tough socks for hiking the GR221. They seemed fine but got soaked in unseasonal rain and then blew off the hotel balcony they were drying on in a gale, never to be seen again.
I completed the hike from Port de Soller to Port de Pollenca with wet feet, (none waterproof Inov8 Rocklites) and cheapo synthetic Decathlon running socks, which were great over the next two sodden days of constant rain. I was carrying a ~12kg load.
I've never bothered to replace Darn Tough socks. Mrs Davy90 has a pair she's worn a hole in, at some point we may test the lifetime guarantee.. but we have a drawer full of Decathlon socks bought in multipacks an age ago which have a very low attrition rate... They also dry faster than merino..
This isobaa normal socks from sports pursuit are nice.
I'd get some think ones if I was planning on hiking about
Persevere with the “darn tough sale” search and you’ll find size Medium, Large and Extra Large available for £18 a pair, which is on par with other quality socks
factor in the “unconditionally guaranteed for life” and the value proposition rises substantially

M&S do some amazingly thick, warm and soft boot socks. I’ve got a couple of pairs, but TBH it hasn’t been cold enough to wear them!
My daughter got the next one down in the range that these are in for DoE and I was very impressed with them.
Many thanks for the suggestions! I found some Teko ones on sale in my size on Sport Pursuit, and was swayed by the "Patagonian eco merino" marketing. I will keep a look out for reduced Darn Tough. Danish Endurance wearers - I saw a number of reviews with photos of baggy toe boxes - do you recognise that, or is it just someone's bad luck?
I cant believe there is only one recommendation for Bridgedale. My absolute go to for Boot socks!
I've found the Danish socks a better fit than the Teko ones, that may be due to sizing but I find the Teko socks are the kind that are nice and soft and fluffy when new but after a few months they are thinner and looser.
I can tell you what not to buy
I bought some Inov8 socks, as generally I like their gear. Their warm socks were not warm !
I find the Teko socks are the kind that are nice and soft and fluffy when new
When I am rich I'm going to put on new socks every single day 🙂
Is it these you have?

How thick / thin are they? (I don't like thin socks! )
Meindl Hunting Socks
I wear boots every single day for at least a couple of hours, and often all day at weekends. They come in short, or extra long (knee length for wearing with wellies or breeks)
Merino mix, they're shaped and labelled left or right.
They are very comfortable, with a slightly padded foot, and are very hardwearing. I reckon I can get a good couple of years or more wear out of a pair even at the rate I use them.
Reasonably expensive at 30 quid RRP, but plenty of offers to be found online.
Mund 'legend' on sportpursuit are excellent very thick wool sock, ideal for walking boot duties, they do some over-the-calf long length ones too.
I'll also second the suggestions above about waiting for the Darn Tough sale prices to come up.
My Nordic Socks are horrible they get clammy then cold very quickly.
Had great socks from Smartwool, Rohan, Thorlo and Bridgedale.
Found Norwegian socks to be great for lounging around the house but too big, loose and baggy for wearing in shoes or boots.
I found Smartwool wore out very fast compared to Darn Tough. I'd go for those on sale and get a few pairs when the opportunity strikes.
I found Norrona ones on sale in their outlet and bought six pairs of thin merino so set for life as a couple years in they're showing no holes or wear yet
