Driving back from the shooting club this morning, I saw a small sports car. I was in traffic so couldn't get a photo.
Anybody know what it might be based on my shitty sketch? The rear lights were all equal diameters. This is a view on the rear.
Transam? Pontiac?
No, it was really petite.
Perhaps 1500 mm tall.
Is that the front or back?
Lancia Stratos?
I thought Stratos but I think that’s the back.
MCTD - I'd know a Stratos!
It's the back hence the exhaust!
It's a Ferrari of some sort. What did magnum have?
No, not a 308 GTS.
It looked a bit crappy TBH so one of the lesser marques.
Ferrari or Lamborghini?
What colour was it? And what colour was the badge?
Or a Gtm coupe?
Lotus Europa?
Transam? Pontiac?
He said small!
Looks a lot like Ferrari Dino, but not sure that would count as particularly small either. My total punt in the dark is Toyota 2000GT
No to all the above I'm afraid.
The car was black and the badge was chrome lettering, quite jagged / spiky, not a plate.
Old Toyota MR2?
Was it a private plate or old H reg so 1970ish. Or new H reg 1990?
First thought was an old Dino 246 baby Ferrari, but think they’ve got the quadruple exhaust.
Deffo H from the 1970s
Same diametre round lights sounds like shitty English companies that raided the ford parts bin. And or kit car.
Ginetta
Tvr
Marcos
Lotus
And if it looked crappy... Def Marcos.
Fiat Dino Spider
De Tomaso Pantera.

Good call on the Fiat.
Cam tail and spiky writing shouts Dino 246 to me.
Another vote for Opel GT. They're tiny in the flesh.

Fiat Sport 850?

Lotus Esprit - I'm sure a few had round lights.
Came to say Lotus europa but just checked and it isn't but wow what a great looking car!
Datsun 160Y?
Datsun Skyline?
Mk1 Opal Manta?
As much as I think it’s a Ferrari Dino too I’d be amazed if one was out on the roads at this time of year!
Toyota 2000gt
Are those little dashes in the OP's drawing a louvres engine?- so something rear/mid engine?
Datsun 240Z
Matra (Talbot / Simca) M530
but wow what a great looking car!
Looks like Rodney and del boys reliant.
My money is on the ops car being a Ferrari dino
A Skoda 110R driving backwards?
Hard to tell from a sketch like that, Ferrari dino is a possibility?

Opel gt.
slight change of direction, there is an opel gt sitting by the side of the road in the industrial area of whitehorse, yukon territory slowly rotting away. i was stunned when i saw it.
my first thought from looking at the picture was 206 dino, but the fiat 850 is a good call. the grills in the sketch do suggest that the engine is behind the driver.
The tail pipes are wrong for a Dino though...
Another vote for a dino, they are tiny, the wee mans fezza...

The sketch is quite an accurate rendition of a William Towns Hustler Sport 🙂

it i so an odd time of year to have a fancy car out for a spin
Which does raise the possibility that it could be an sort of kit car fantasy.
actual LOL.
unfortunately, the tail lights a wrong and i’ll bet that there’s only one tailpipe
could be a rochdale.

The OP didn't specify whether it was made of wood or had room for a coffin... or count the wheels

Lancia monte carlo
Yeah, my money is on a dino or dino replica/kit car... you wouldn't take out a real dino in this weather, unless you are totally mad!!
It's a £300k car lol!
Lancia monte carlo
Nah, they have square rear light units, not individual round ones.
spiky writing fits the bill
The Mini Marcos was really petite and seems to have had any number and configuration of lights on the back at different points by all of them round

Matra Simca
My dad had one. Only single round lights iirc.
C'mon OP, you should at least be able to rule out a Ferarri Dino, they are pretty distinctive looking!
fiat x19 ?
Can't be... single tail pipe on the wrong side, square light clusters
Definitely looking like a Fiat 850 Sport Coupe. Just google it.

It was the Bicester Scramble today, so there was plenty of very expensive cars on the roads (even if most of the really fancy stuff gets trailered).
"Deffo H from the 1970s"
H is 60s. 68/69?
God, Imagine google/chat GPT watching this thread for captchas...
"Pick all the pictures that contain Ferarris"....
My uncle had a fiat coupe just like that green one above.
1300 twin cam, made all the right noises, and felt quick to 9yo me, but probably only had about 70bhp.
looked good irl though

I bet they are worth a lot of money these days... maybe not as much as a Ferarri Dino, though, to be fair.
Have they salted the roads recently ? If not, there's every possibility a Dino may be out and about. And they are tiny compared to today's cars...
Morecashthandash has it.
Fiat 850 for sure.
Thank you.
I think they have affixed the Dino badge for a laugh.
I think they have affixed the Dino badge for a laugh.
Did they really do that? just why? it's a classic car in it's own right, and they won't be fooling anyone.
It's a bit like when peole adverstise an M-sport BMW 3 series bimmer...it's not an M3, it's a diesel powed potato.
And if it looked crappy… Def Marcos.
You really think that looks crappy?

I don't think the OP drew a Marcos though, especially if that's engine louvres at the back
It was never going to be a marcos, the sketchy sketch of the rear end and the shape of the tail lights rule that out pretty easily.
Ooh, a 'best and worst Marcos' thread

That almost works, it's like a mash-up of an E-type Jag, a Cobra, and some sort of Ferarri!

probably more like putting scuderia shield stickers in the front wings of a 90’s fiat 500. just a bit of ironic fun.
I wondered if it might have been an Alfasud; fantastic little sports coupé with a boxer engine, but like most British cars of the period, and all Italian cars, they’re incredibly rare because of iron moth. And no louvres.

Just had a thought, how about an Adams Probe 15?

"That almost works, it’s like a mash-up of an E-type Jag, a Cobra, and some sort of Ferarri!"
There's a fair bit of Morris Marina in there too! It's hideous!
