Hey folks. Back went into spasms several times this morning, causing me to shout out (never been this bad previously, but I have a low pain threshold).
Been laid out in bed for 90m, thinking about moving, is crawling best?
Any tips, chat, love, piss taking welcome
(Have called NHS and GP, some muscle relaxant being brought over by neice). Also watched videos of getting in and out of bed, but moving afterwards scares me!
Breathing exercises! Fill belly through nose, breathe out slowly through mouth.
Every time I get twingy they seem to help.
Healing vibes..
Been there, had to crawl along floor and pull myself up on furniture to get up. It was hideous.
Went to physio and the best exercise she recommended was the cow/cat yoga movement if you know the one I mean. Seemed to be least stressful to do and give the fastest relief
Been drop kicking any walls lately? 😉
Hope it gets better quickly, it's miserable.
Last actual spasm was from doing an overhead lift with poor form, hurt like crazy for a day but then passed.
If muscular pain, movement will likely help, as painful as it is to get started.
I currently have a knee problem I could do without, enflamed bursar sack, probably due to taking up indoor climbing in my mid-40's!
Get pain killer and anti inflammatory into you asap - will help with the spasming.
Get yourself booked into a physio asap.
It depends what the cause is as to what you can do for it.
Cat / cow can help a bit - for me the best stretch is called ‘seated flexion’ but the physio was confident the issue wasn’t a deterioration in my previously bulged discs and that the muscle was just spasming as tension had built up in it overtime / back posture sat in a cheap office chair for months upon months.
It took a while but frequent stretching / a sit-stand desk / decent office chair supplied by work got the whole thing way more manageable.
I also now tend to get a sports massage every other month just to keep it topped up.

I generally find that once standing it's fine. Just don't try bending over to pick anything up...
Thanks all - Iain that actually works, must be a mindfulness thing.
Rik are you meant to do that right away?
Up and about now, couldn't stand lying down any more. Got drugs too and some frozen chips against my back 🤣
What is wrong with this place?
NO piss taking?
I don't see how dialysis will help.
Can manage to get down onto the floor and back up again? Do you have a foam roller?
If yes then while supporting your head with pillows, place the foam roller down (not across) your back and gently move it left to right.
I was shown this by a well trusted osteopath shortly before he retired.
Doesn't Edinburgh have a few specialist massage parlours that give you a guaranteed happy ending. Names like "Fingertips" used to leave calling cards in phone boxes but probably struggle for business due to the mobile phone everyone has now
Over the counter Volterol "horse tranquiliser" to numb the pain?
I was taking the prescription version in 2008, Diclofenac, for 6+ months when my lower back went pop. Killed pain so much it was possible to do further damage without realising, while drugged up!
I've had various back problems over the years, including spasms, sciatica etc. One thing that's worked for me when I have an 'attack' is a bit of yoga courtesy of Adriene....
She's brilliant.

I am not sure that NSAIDs work simply by blocking the pain signal to the brain, as for example I believe that Amitriptyline does.
My understanding is that NSAIDs are used where the pain is primarily caused by inflammation and they therefore reduce the cause of the pain, rather than block it.
Toughen up princess.
Rik are you meant to do that right away?
It was next day for me when I saw the physio, but now if I have pain it's pretty much the first thing I do, when I am able of course
I've got half a bottle of oramorph I can send you.................on second thoughts..

Yup. That's what the "AI" bit means, it's an anti-inflammatory.
Long time intermittent lower back pain sufferer here.
Two things have helped me a ** lot **
1. The Hog. See below. Some gentle hip / back exercises when I start to get the early warning twinges.
2. A standing desk. I stand all day for work now and rotate my hips / do knee lifts etc etc on calls to keep my core muscles moving.
If the original poster can get a prescription off their GP, the pain relief products “French” style work very well for acute lower back pain.
you have my sympathies.... I had a bad spasm attack at work once, could get off the ground due to the pain... paramedics were called oh the sweet sweet sweet relief of morphine 😀 ! was pretty much fine afterwards not had anything similar since, must be 15 years.

You mean like Diclofenac suppositories, for example? Yup, goes into the bloodstream remarkably quickly and by bypassing the stomach avoids all those problems associated with NSAID use.
You need to rub some rusty hued orbs onto your back
Tag team paracetamol followed by ibuprofen every 2hrs, just 1 tablet mind. Then add caffeine, which helps somehow intensify the pain killing effects.
Then very gentle stretching knee to opposing shoulder helps me the most
This might help on piss taking.

Putting my back out on pretty much an annual basis to the point of barely being able to get up/walk - the worst was about 4-5 years ago. Found a chiropractor where I was staying in St Albans and got me sorted. Took a few weeks until properly sorted though.
The cause was nowhere near the pain at the base, but 2/3 up my back on my spine. He knew exactly where to press when he examined me
Had horrendous back spasm once,to the point where I was on the floor for three days. I could only move a few degrees from a particular position before it came back like a 240v shock. I was pumped full of various drugs by various doctors all to no effect apart from masking the rectal digit insertion from one of them😳😳. Last doctor was going to send me to hospital for catheterisation when she asked if I would try acupuncture ….10 minutes later I was walking round the room..
