..just planning the "main" gift for my 6yo. He is after an off-road rc buggy.
I think that the type with the steering wheel steering would be better. Any pointers, up to say £75?
this looks like good fun http://www.modelsport.co.uk/maverick-ion-xt-1-18-rtr-electric-truggy/rc-car-products/367885. 1/18th scale so won't need loads of space too
Work colleague bought one of these after we both did some last.minute research the day before his kid's.birthday...a few months later now and still going strong apparently. Amazing fun.apparently, goes on water.
Makes me want one.

just looking through that site above as it's been a while since I looked at RC cars (used to race them 14 years ago) and this caught my eye as it looks like they have copied/bought the design of an Associated RC10 B2 but changed some of the parts to cheaper plastic to keep costs down. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ansmann-racing-mad-rat-2.4ghz-rtr/rc-car-products/33535 not suggesting that though, too much and no batteries etc.
I would look at the new breed of mini/mico RC cars like posted by gazc - I know Losi do some as well and they should be a lot more controllable than some of the rubbish you get from 'toy' companies.
i`ll second the using of modelsport. try stick to the names losi, hpi, tamiya in that price range cheaper for spares some of the other names are cheaper start cost but long term expensive
yes, that maverick looks good.
Thinking it might be the one for me....ahem, my son of course!
I have, sorry, my son has a Maisto Rock Crawler, he got when he was 6, now 7, it's big enough to be robust, but slow enough to control, 4 wheel drive, loads of suspension movement and it really does climb up stuff.
looked at those rock crawlers but my lads likes the idea of jumping them off ramps! also, the zaprizor is water/snow/mud proof but I think they are steered like a tank, with two forward and reverse control stciks, one for each side.
he is used to the steering wheel control steering so would like to keep it like that
