Hello all - long time lurker here needing to break cover and post!
I have (had as it is now kaputt) and iphone 3gs. I had the tom tom app and cradle.
Does anyone with the tom tom app and cradle also have an ipod touch that they also use for sat nav (using the cradles in built GPS)?
I know the Touch has a cradle of its own - i just wondered if you could [u]definately[/u] use the iphone cradle (i.e. has anyone here used it)?
I'm thinking of replacing the iphone with a Touch for sat nav and on the move music and getting an ipad for home duties.
I have a work mobile so dont really need a phone anymore. I mostly used the iphone at home for web and mail...

Welcome sir/lady long may you stay. I am the welcoming committee, the cavalry will follow shortly. Don't swear. You can say cow dung though. Here is the thing though most proper riders on here are out riding, the productive people who know stuff are on their bikes or trying diy so this makes this place kinda empty of knowing people on a Saturday. 😀
Also you said Iphone, Ipad, Ipod; I'm allergic to apple so I can't help. Hopefully someone will be by lick-ety split to help.

I'm pretty sure you can't use the iphone cradle with the itouch - that is why there are two different models.
The compatibility tables on these page would definitely suggest that you can't:

the ipod touch won't work as a sat nav i'm afraid as it does not have GPS in it.
It will if you use it with the TomTom cradle as this has a GPS chip inside it.
it works with the tomtom cradle, because the cradle provides the gps functionality... however, this probably won't work with the iphone cradle; only the itouch cradle (which he doesn't have).

It will with the Tom Tom cradle with built in GPS he's talking about.

Hmm... I wondered whether the touch would work in the iPhone cradle as i read somewhere the only difference between the cradles was a mic. I still haven't found anything on the web to give me confidence it would work so will prob get another iPhone in the New Year. Thanks folks 🙂
If you can hold out long enough, the 5G iPhone will be along in June, so you could probably pick up a 4G a lot cheaper from the committed upgraders. It's not likely to be a big upgrade, so a 4G would be ideal. Otherwise you might pick up a 3Gs cheap of t'interwebby thing.
