Kayaking down the Amazon - big deal, so what?

Train, do - simples.

What's not simple is funding it, and she's got that covered.

Yes, but she's done it for charity, he did it for the Discovery Channel, book promotion, sponsorship, motivational speaking and probably ego, like most explorers - I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

You wouldn't get me up there in a month of Sundays. Well done to her.

Mind you, I don't find her attractive so can critique her performance unbiased.

Samuri - I find you not finding her attractive equally offensive. What have her looks got to do with it?

Read the entire thread and see if there's a theme running through it. Then read my comment in context.

Does that help?

Ed Stafford WALKED the Amazon solo.

But did he? If an Ed Stafford were to walk through a rainforest and no-one was there to see it, did it really happen. Unanswerable question I'm afraid.

Anyway, I'd be very interested to hear what Surf Mat has to say about this plucky girl. If anyone knows what awesomeness is, it's him.

With that description, you might as well pick an STW thread out of the hat.

Yes, but she's done it for charity

No, she either did it because she wanted to or because it was good for her career. Does anybody really only give to charity because some minor celebrity has done some canoeing. Her whole trip must have cost tens of thousands of pounds, given the crew she took for her "solo" trip.

Enough already about the bleedin' canoeing, my post was about the high wire.

God I can smell the acrid stench of your cynicism over wireless.

Christ kennyp give the girl a break whatever the motivation, reasoning, support and actual danger involved Shes done a damn site more with her life than you ever will. I bet the highlight of her day today was a bit more interesting than lurking on a forum slagging people off

I admitted that earlier in this thread, so I'm afraid there's no point in trying to put me down that way. Sorry.

You mean like you just did with that posting?

I actually praised the girl for many things she's done with her life. I just don't like the lies involved in "doing something solo when it so obviously wasn't" and "but it was for charity" when that was far from being the main reason.

My problem is that these sort of lies devalue the achievements of people who've done more, but aren't lucky enough to have the weight of a giant media organisation behind them.
