I'm dropping my wife at Heathrow and after the recent Gatwick parking thread, I'm hoping there will be some useful info on Heathrow!

£5 drop off charge is fine but I'd like to go into the terminal to see her off which you can't do.  Official Heathrow options are £65 for two hours in short stay or about £30 to park at a long stay and get a 10 minute shuttle each way.

That's pretty steep, I'm wondering if there are other parking options with a regular bus/park and ride into Heathrow?  It's terminal 5.

Thanks

Two hours? Isn't it £16 for short stay and £9 for long stay?

Park in Stanwell, and get the 555 bus to T5? There’s no controlled parking around there.

When I go my Dad parks on a residential street nearby and I get a bus. The 350 up Hatch Lane.

2 hours seems a long time to see someone off....if they're anything like me, they'll be wanting to get thru security Asap. When I've gone in to see people off its been less than 30 mins

Was factoring in a 10 minute wait for a 10 minute bus/shuttle ride each way and waiting for the rest of their group to meet up. 30 minutes would probably be ample in the short stay right next to the terminal but the prices I quoted also apply for the shortest period of one hour. (So £65!)

Ok...well that must have changed since last time I did it.   That does seem extortionate but personally I wouldn't want the added stress of buses from outside Heathrow.

If you end up doing long stay check out the t5 business parking... It was only a fiver more for a 3 week stay for us and the bus wait was less than 5 mins

A friend of mine caught the Pod at T5, which bike down. They couldn’t get out and he missed his flight!

short stay should be about £12 for first hour and £16 up to 2hrs. Not much point partaking in long stay

you need to go to the official LHR site to see the correct prices

555 doesn’t go to T5, only T4 and Heathrow Central.

Strange, either the prices have jumped, or perhaps the pre-book prices assume you are actually flying and therefore charging more than if you just turn up and pay on the day.

I'm on the proper Heathrow website.

If the bus options don't look easy then it will just be the £5 drop-off option!

I picked my <familymember> up from T4 a week ago; my car was there for about 30 minutes (a guess, but it was a 5 min walk in, 15 minute coffee, 5 min walk out) and it was definitely under 20 quid (short stay)

you need to go to the official LHR site to see the correct prices

This !

But you are right, airport parking charges in general are scandalous.

The Heathrow site is infuriating. It says the minimum one hour charge is £65 for the short stay, then it's about £75 if you 'overstay' but I can't find anything about how long you can park before you've overstayed!

The AI chat bot isn't even privy to that information. I'm surprised you can run a car park without making the hourly rate and limitations clear.

Just drive to the short stay as if you were picking up a passenger. Don't pre-book.

I did it the other week and was there for about half an hour and it was £16 or so (T2).

Just do what all the taxi drivers do.

My taxi fares go up by about a tenner when they pick me up at T5 so the fee can't be anything like £65 in reality.

Just drive up and should cost you less than £20.

Edit

Just found the link to the drive up pricing on the Hearties site.

https://www.heathrow.com/transport-and-directions/heathrow-parking/passenger-pick-up

Up to 59 minutes is £12.70

350 goes to T5. Heaps of places you can park along the route near a bus stop.

Free parking on street near west Hounslow station. 2 stops on the tube, take your time, total cost about £3 in tube tickets

@andrewreay

Perfect thanks, that's the info I couldn't find.  It's got to be deliberate that the short stay car park booking let's you book by the hour but charges a full day, and doesn't have a link to the passenger pick up page which explicitly says prebooking is only for full day parking and to use the onsite ticket machines for up to 2 hours!

I even dumbed down my question to the chat bot to 'short stay charges' and 'short stay overstay' without the word parking but I suppose it was waiting for the keyword 'pick up'.

Also thanks reeksy and 5lab
