old house which I'm renovating. toddlers room gets very cold. I have been looking at electric heaters but worried about him touching them. Are there any child safe ones that would be okay to leave running overnight? how ate they cost wise to run

A good option for a kids bedroom would probably be an oil-filled radiator, like this:

As above, we run an oil filled radiator with an inbuilt thermostat and timer. It comes on and off through the night. Still in a cot though so no concerns about them touching it at present.

Oil filled and don't worry about them touching it - no different than a conventional radiator and they soon learn that touching it will hurt.

I put one of those flat panel things on the wall and it's pretty darn efficient plus can't be knocked over and not too bad to the touch

As well as the inbuilt thermostat you can also get a plug thermostat which controls the radiator coming on and off at the wall (like a timer would).

You can get one that turns on when the temp drops below a set temp. It works really well in our house at night time. The heating turns off at the end of the evening and the heater kicks in after the house has cooled.

It doesn't need to hear the room fully, just enough to keep it above feeling cold. Takes the edges off.

We had internal insulation fitted to the nursery. Made a huge difference.

We use De'Longhi Bambino oil heaters in the kids rooms over winter. Doesn't get too hot, not too powerful, but keeps the temperature up overnight.
