I've bought some cable for.a little job in my van, this is what I've ordered,
unistrand 1mm flexible tri-rated cable.
I want to.make the connections waterproof so want to heat shrink the joins. Not sure what size heat shrink to order though. Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks, Nathan

Just big enough to slide over your connections - remember to slide the HS on one of the wires before you join the wires!

I got some of these a short while ago..

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BJX51VT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

you just slip a cable in each end, heat the edges first then the middle and the ring of solder melts and makes a great, waterproof and mess-free solution. I didn't even use a soldering iron, a lighter did the job. perfect.

Can't help with the sizing but it usually tells you the minimum size it'll shrink down to. The stuff with the adhesive inside is effectively permanent provided you heat it enough to get the glue melted all the way through the join. A good alternative is Heatseal crimps. Supplied with a heatshrink sleeve over a butt crimp. The heatshrink sleeve is translucent & when heated you can see the glue melt & ooze out the ends. I've used loads of these & neven had any fail.

Yeah those things 5lab mentioned are cool. Really useful and simple.

If you are around Edinburgh/Tweed Valley pop round, I've got loads in many sizes, try them and see what fits

@b33k34 the problem with posting Amazon links is that they tend to show up as kindle preview, which isn't super helpful. Refresh the page and you should be able to see the image again, but google "Solder Seal Wire Connectors" and you will find the generic item. Never tried them myself but they look very convenient for certain applications.

Is it 1mm outer or 1mm core? You need to know the outer diameter to size the heat shrink (just go a little bit bigger eg x 1.5). Either way it is pretty thin wire for automotive stuff. Have you double checked the current requirements?
