Probably a bonkers question but - I am on the verge of needing to use hearing aids in order to stop driving MrsJ crazy constantly asking her to repeat herself. What do folk use to listen to music if (I assume) it’s no longer possible to use AirPods etc? Probably I have completely misunderstood the situation so all education welcomed !!

Yes, bluetooth hearing aids. Mine work well when using the phone, but not brilliant for music, sound too quiet and tinny. I have some big headphones that go over my ears with my aids in, and some Shokz bone conducting ones too, which sound ok but a bit of a faff. The Shokz fit in front of my ears, they don't actually fit into the 'hole' where the aids reside.

Music over mild hearing loss hearing aids is poor. They aren’t really built for it. Also no ANC or sound blocking so ambient noise competes against your music/podcast.

I just take my hearing aids out and pop IEMs or AirPod Pros in or pop headphones on.

though neglecting to put my hearing aids back in afterwards drives my SO crazy too.

check out the accessibility options for your AirPods and you’ll find some tuning settings https://support.apple.com/en-us/102663?cid=mc-ols-audio-article_ht211218-ios_ui-06042020

Air pods pro can be programmed with your hearing loss chart.

You still have to switch between the pods and your hearing aids*, but the AirPods sound amazing - when I got hem I kept saying things like: “ I’d forgotten there was a clarinet in this”

*Airpods pro can be used as emergency hearing aids - they work, but they sound echo-y until you get everything set up right.

Very new user myself for the same reason, mumbling OH!

First general advice appears to be get NHS ones first. No Bluetooth but they do work in terms of making the OH stop mumbling, miraculous.

So I'm still with NHS and just wip them out and stick my pods in.

They're only real issue is wind noise, but a buff sorts that, ohh and they don't like it in the bath.

I do vinyl mixing being a old skool raver

And I've just got a new pair of aids last month

Did some mixing yesterday....and it was annoying because the new aids have a sensor in them that makes a noise and changes when I have the headphones on one ear....when it does that there is a split second pause....so no good for mixing .

Makes me think can you use the air pod pros as hearing aids ?

I just stick normal earphones over my hearing aids

In ear ones I just alter the EQ

As noted above hearing aids are optimised for speech not music so I’ve drifted towards podcasts.

I understand that AirPods can be used to boost communication when sat around a table, with a lot of background noise, which a lot of people suffer from.

Yeah, here you go, it’s called Live Listening:
