I'm looking to replace my old headtorch, looking at around 600 lumens, it will be used for walking.

The Petzl ACTIK® CORE seems to fit the bill, any others worth looking at before I hit the purchase button?

I have a couple of the LED Lenser products (sold through Screwfix), find the lumens you want as they have a load of options. Quality is good, mine get used in all weathers most of the year round.

I saw a Sorfin HS10 on Amazon and got great reviews at £37. Googled it and found it for £14 shipped from AliExpress so took a punt. It is very good - as good as the Exposure Verso Mk1 that I paid £100 for and that has been back to Exposure a number of times.

I've got an olight H1R which is good. Has since been superseded. Magnetic charger and swappable batteries are a nice touch. Unlike like many Chinese torches it doesn't force you to scroll through 8 flashing modes everytime you use it.

I've had a Petzl ACTIK® CORE for a couple of years - it's been brilliant.

I really like the beam pattern - there are no harsh transitions and it provides a great pattern for running. I'm a glasses wearer and some head torches are annoying as the light catches the top of the lenses but the Actik doesn't.

Super simple contols, run time OK for me. The only reason I'd want more is if I was doing very long runs or was fast enough that I needed a longer throw from the light.

I have a petzl nao for home use and a duo s for work.

Can't go wrong with a petzl in my eyes. (Unless you shine it in my eyes, then you have gone wrong, but you get what I mean)

Just ordered an Sorfin HS20 off Aliexpress. Don't need another light but it looked really good value and should be way better older Led Lenser and Olight H1R.

I've got a couple

An Olight Array 2S - nice and light, separate flood and spot, with a separate red LED. It's controlled with hand gestures once turned on - takes a bit of getting used to, but great once you've got the hang of it. Plenty bright enough, but not a huge run time - you won't get a full nights use out of it

olight

Also have an LED Lenser - again, plenty bright enough and will do a full night shift if used sensibly. Not as compaqct though and you have to toggle through the modes

Over the years iv’e had various petzl and Led lenser head torches which have been great, but all ultimately died before there time in one way or another, either through being knocked about and left in packs (so always there when I need it) or water ingress. A caving mate pointed me in the direction of Fenix head torches and theyre brilliant. I’ve got a HL60 which goes up to 950 lumens, not the cheapest or any where near the lightest, but nice big battery for decent run time, virtually indestructible and IPX8 rated. The thing will likely outlast me

Trying to count how many headtorches I have... hmmm... 2 zebralights, 1 fenix, 2 black diamonds, 5 petzls (if you include the 3 E+lites I have). Plus a few others knocking around for just in case use like a Sofirn. I supply the whole family with my spares

Don't have the Actik Core, but they are pretty well regarded and I've always liked Petzl headtorches. I reckon I use or carry my Petzls the most as I drop them into my pockets or put them in my biking bag as a backup light, although my main one is my zebralight H600w IV

Older Petzl Nao+ here (750l i think) - been used a lot for probably 4 years and seems tip top still. Love the reactive lighting mode, though can be a bit odd if you're puffing quite a bit in the winter, the cloud of breath vapour causes the light to tick down a notch or two LOL. Pretty sure I can replace the cells if I ever need to aswell.

I only know Petzl ones, but the Nao is fantastic but a bit heavy (but long run time). THe Swift RL is equally bright and lighter (and cheaper) but the light spread isn't quite as good. (but still fantastic)

You wouldn't want to do any riding solely on a head torch, because it makes it near-impossible to see dips and holes at speed (the shadow that a bar-mounted light would give you is filled in by the head torch).

If you don't need mega output my Silva Trail Runner seems to be superb value for money. Petzl's are ok, this is better and decidedly better the others I've used
