I'm currently using some reasonably cheap BT headphones from Amazon that work great but I do get a 'thump' on every step while walking.
Is this 'bone effect' that I'll get with all headphones of this sort [i.e. sealed] or are some better than others?

Nearly all in-ear ones do that. I've got some with loops over the ears I wear when running (rare occasion!) which don't do it..
Bit like these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009BTTB8I/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_xVvxCbQ9KBYFM

I sometimes get this if the cables are flapping about

the ones In the OP have ear holder thingies so I guess it’s a fit issue. You just need to experiment till you find some that fit your ear-shape. I swear by my Platronics Backbeat Fit, really snug & comfortable walking, running, etc, but I recall there’s at least one poster on here who couldn’t get on with them, kept falling out etc, so it’s definitely not one shape fits all.

I should add that they fit great, nice and snug with a good seal - which maybe why I'm hearing the bone conduction?

Mine flap about too, it’s the cable on mine so I tuck it in.

But yeah, the thump is mostly the echo in your ear.

Yeah I've got some like that, it's probably the cable. I've got some completely wireless ones that don't. I use them for running.

Just ensure you always walk in time with the beat, then you won't notice.

Definitely don't get that effect with my AirPods, even whilst running.

I'm guessing Rachel didn't look at how much the OP pays for headphones...

I get the ‘thump’ regardless of which headphones I use. I just get used to it

had the same problem but only with one phone/BT headphone combo - i reckoned the mic' on the phone was somehow being encouraged to come on and what I was getting was the mic picking up phone movement in my pocket

Blue Monday....why not can't see how to embed youtube 🙁

I’ve had it with all ear and headphones regardless of price. I’m guessing I have the grace of Frankenstein’s monster when it comes to walking or running

Usually caused by the cable rubbing on clothing. Some headphones are better than others, and as you'd expect, wireless ones tend to be the best solution.

Pretty sure this isn't the same thing.

Nah, if they're the ones that create a seal with your ear canal via rubber grommets then the thump comes from the body of the 'phones jerking downwards each time your foot strikes the floor and the associated vacuum created between the 'phone and your eardrum.

Cabled ones suffer 'microphonics' where sound is transmitted along the wires from flapping about.

I bought a pair of over-ear headphones for walking, but they're enclosed and get sweaty even on the coolest days.

Now looking at bone-conducting ones, but I suspect something like in-ear, unsealed, wireless buds (like airpods) are actually the best solution.

Should add, mine are Bluetooth, so it isn’t the cable!
