any suggestions for connecting headphones to an LG 40" telly (cs46) that doesn't have a head phone jack/port?

it's got the component in, a PCMCIA slot, and a USB port (for photos from a USB stick).

Bluetooth headphones with a BT dongle in the USB port? Not saying it would work, but it's the only thing I can think of that might.

Output the sound from the source to a headphone amp? I did this with mine for gaming on the xbox 360, I ran the HDMI to the monitor and then stripped the plastic off the component lead so that would fit in the 360 as well and then ran the sound output to an amp.

Does your TV have optical out? If so then use a DAC with a headphone amp. Fiio make some, but there are cheaper makes too which hav eslipped my mind.

I can't see any other way of doing it apart from something like what bwaarp suggests.

Bizarre really for a modern telly not to have any way of hooking up external speakers.

I think most modern flat-panel sets assume they're going to be hooked up to some sort of audio system, which will have a headphone facility. My Bravia must be all of five or six years old, and I'm pretty sure it can't use external speakers, only an A/V setup. (I could be wrong, not sure where the user manual is).

That's fine if you're watching DVDs or whatever but what about when you're using the internal 'digibox'?

Cheers for the suggestions. Its a fairly basic TV as it was only £80 brand new. Only ports I can see are the RCA in (audio and video), USB, PCMCIA slot, 2 x HDMI in, Aerial in.

I would mainly be using the headphones for the ps3 so I guess I could hook up some kind of audio management device to the PS3 and just mute the telly? (PS3 is connected by HDMI to the TV).

What does the PCMCIA car do, is it a network card that allows the TV to be connected to other network devices.

PCMCIA is usually for software updates

Get an iphone TV streaming app, use that for the audio, and hope they happen to sync?

The card slot that looks like a PCMCIA interface is probably a CAM slot - for getting access to optional and subscription channels that are encrypted.

It's got 'PCMCIA' written across the top of the slot?

Yup, it uses the same form as a PC Card slot (A.K.A PCMCIA) so a lot of manufacturers still refer to it as this.

It effectively *is* a PCMCIA slot, but will only work with pay TV cards - not the range of cards you would expect the same slot on a computer to accept.

For a cheapo conversion....Have you got a 2 to 1 audio cadaptor? Put the red and white cable into a 2-1 adaptor then plug it into the line in on a laptop and run your headphones out of the laptop.

Doesn't the PS3 allow you to pair Bluetooth headphones to it?

You could then mute the TV and use any old Bluetooth headphones with it.

Edit: Doesn't look like Bluetooth headphones work in 'movie' mode on the PS3. For chat only, it looks like.
