My not cheap Sennheiser earbuds are going crackly and the wires are visible through cracks at the jack. Going to be a fiddly job but can someone recommend a jack plug(4 pole, it has a mic), sensibly designed to make it a bit less fiddly?
Is it not easier to cut a jack off something else and splice the wires further up?
I replaced the 4 pole jack on my Bose headphones a few weeks ago, quite fiddly but with a third hand tool and magnifying glass it went surprisingly well! I don't think there are any that make it less fiddly, they're all going to be pretty small to work with.
The replacement jack was one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gold-4-Pole-3-5mm-Male-Repair-headphone-Jack-Plug-Metal-Audio-Soldering-Spring-/221686330228
The last time I repaired such things, it wasn't the plug that was the issue but the headphone cable which was horrific stuff to work with. I'd lopped off about a foot by the time I'd worked out how to trim and solder it satisfactorily.
