It would seem every time I ride at the minute I get a bitch of a headache an hour later, lack of water a possibility?

Thirsty? Hungry? Need an eye test?

I used to get this. Tried lots of electrolyte drinks and found the only one that fixed it - and it really did - was http://eletewater.co.uk/.

If it's not hydration based then it could be tension headaches due to set up

Hydration is my first thought. You may not notice yourself sweating, but you'll still be losing fluids

Do actually need an eye test. Never get headaches any other time other than the odd one caused by the dreaded beer.

I get something similar, think it's not taking enough water on whole riding, because I am one sweaty mofo! Couple of paracetamol post ride and constant drinking for a couple of hours wards it off!

I get this a lot. Turns out I have a congenital heart defect. Dirty blood going between the chambers or some bollocks. Also, you notice the fitter you get the less you get them. Less strain I guess?
If it's persistent you might consider getting checked out.

I'm pushing myself at the moment trying to get fitter. Had highish bp 5 or so years ago due to (i think) stress at work, it was fine last time I was checked. Didn't want to waste a gp appointment but might go for a quick check.

James gets this, he finds eating something salty afterwards counter acts it, for example some salt and vinegar crisps is normally the snack of choice.

when i first started doing long distance events i used to get a real thumper of a headache in the back of my head, especially on downhills. turned out i was holding onton the bars too tight. sounds crazy but it was true, i relaxed, never had it since.

This happens to me too and after a bit of googling about a year ago I found it's quite a common problem. In my case it's not a hydration issue but a over heating issue. According to the internet some people's brain swells after intense exercise and causes head aces. Mine sometimes lasted for up to three days. The solution was quite simple. I have to cool my head down as soon as possible after a ride. If I'm at home I stick it under a cold shower for a minute. If I'm out I tip whatever water I have left on my head. This cools you down quickly and stops the swelling. I also take my helmet off whenever I stop for a rest. Sounds weird but totally stopped all post ride headaches for me. Hope this helps.
