ImI looking out for a head torch for the wife to use when running during the winter.
She is looking to use it for a mixture of Street and trail running.
What do you recommend ?
Mrs S runs with Alpkit ones. I'll find out link to the model
https://www.alpkit.com/products/viper
The viper is the one. This latest version now comes with a removable top strap for more stability.
We have been using an exposure joystick on there headband mount for the last few years for everything running, dog walking, at the horse yard etc.
Expensive to start one of ours is now 6 years old and still going. The light also sits on the side of your head instead of being directly in front of your sight
Alpkit Viper is more than adequate.
NITECORE HC33. Nothing better for the money. eBay 35 quid
As i have 18650 batteries, i iook a punt on this...
...and its great, particularly for a fiver. Took a while for delivery but id buy again. Battery compartment can take 2 batteries but i found you could run it on 1. Also has rear red light on battery compartment
Picked-up one of these ( https://rockrun.com/collections/silva/products/silva-mr-150) earlier in the year for our daughter to take on Guide camp, it's light, comfortable to wear and very bright. Use it a lot myself for off-road running and walking with the dogs.
I asked a similar question a few weeks ago .
I eventually settled on the Decathlon Run Light 250 and found it to be excellent for my early morning runs, which includes a bit of pavement followed by a lot more cross country.
I'd say I get about 2.5 - 3 hours out of one charge, using it on it's lower setting. I've never had to use it on full power yet as it's more than bright enough on the lower one.
@the pinkster how do you find the Decathlon chest light ?
Therefore was looking at it earlier but was put off where it looked like the beam was swinging around a lot.
One other thing that makes me prefer the Iron Man light is that i find it a lot more stable and comfortable than the, admittedly cheap, head torches I'd previously used, and if you wear a hat when running in winter there is far less chance of this one slipping or causing your hat to ride up.
I have a 15 quid rechargable from Amazon.
Goes on my head works well
Lets me see where I'm looking -that may be where im going or well up the trail Infront of behind
Found my joystick headband would slip down and rest on my ears same with my borrowed alpkit auto changing head torch.
If you're constantly looking at your feet when running then yes, you do notice it swinging from side to side but it's far less noticeable when you've got it pointing down the trail, where hopefully you'll be looking.
The only time I really notice it is on one short narrow section between 2 tall hedges.
I like the adjustable angle on it too, so you can adjust how far down the trail it lights, which also helps reduce the noticeable swing when running. This also helps going up & down steep banks and steps too.
Silva 4x

This is great on dark wooded trails and is fine on low power. Micro USB chargeable, well sealed and nicely balanced. Above all it's reliable with only two settings. It'd be a right faff otherwise.
Petzl bindi, 200 lumens, rechargeable, 35 quid.
35 grams.
Forgot the main reason I bought mine- red light to rear .
Living rural I have to run on a road too and from the trails. Red rear is mandatory for me. So many "running" lights don't have this feature and so are out for me
True dat, good point.
Mrs likes the bindi as it's light, has no battery pack.
Loads of people in our club use this

300 lumens £25
Neay as good as £150/£200 torches.
Chest one ok but useless for serious off road
Cheers for all the suggestions.
