Slightly off topic, but why the u**** do people put big tellies on their walls some 5 or 6 feet off the ground meaning they have to constantly look up and struggle to see the picture because of reflections from windows and stuff?

Ahh of course. And here was me thinking it was because it was easier to show off to their neighbours.

but get the lightest version of everything together and you have a 19lb bike that rockets you up hills faster than you would ever think possible.

that would be a 6% difference in all up rider+bike+kit weight so not really much faster 🙁

Feels way faster though, which is what tricks folk.

Because that's the exact spot my eyes fall when lounging on the couch. I'm not stupid, thanks 🙂

Ever ridden a 19lb bike Barnes? I thought not!

The maths does not support the impression of speed. Most of the weight involved is muscles, heart, lungs etc etc. So as a proprtion of the DEAD weight it's quite a bit.

A 5% difference in all-up weight between my lightest and heaviest bikes corresponds to a 15% difference in times up the climb at Cwmcarn. Go figure.

but the muscles have to move the entire weight due to the constraints of Physics 🙂

Barnes - just shut up.

Light bikes are/feel very fast indeed. Come try mine if you want proof. Otherwise just shut up, as above.

Barnes - just shut up.

is this your reasoned argument ? I don't see how trying it helps as one's body is a highly inaccurate and subjective measuring instrument.

Barnes - just shut up.

Why? Because he says stuff you don't like?

Right this interested me so much I did a test. By luck my office is attached to a top end hifi shop. We have sky HD running into a 42" philips k9. Halfway through the rugby were watching I swapped the normal hdmi cable with a ****n expensive chord company active silverplus 1.3b cable. Did we notice the difference ? Yes I did but then I knew. Wife asked 10mins in had I changed something ?. Definitely perceptible difference. Not sure if we will keep it right enough as my Naim uniti arrives Tuesday so I am skint even though it was at cost !

I offered you some times, you gonna ignore those?

Why? Because he says stuff you don't like?

Yes, he's flat out telling me I'm wrong with no evidence whatsoever, and no discussion. Plus he's hijacking the thread.

You clearly don't know how to lounge properly!

Ooh, if you knew knew me you'd know what a serious claim that is!

Barnes....are you going to dismiss Mrs NZCol as a'highly inaccurate and subjective measuring instrument.' ? We all know, women are NEVER wrong! 😆
Seriously though, that simple test shows the drivel in 'It's digital, it either works or it doesn't.' NZCol's TV went from working fine, to working differently (some may say better).

Digital - it either works or it doesn't - that's wrong.

An individual bit will either get through or not. Whether or not all the bits get through is another matter. Ever had poor signal on freeview or have bad weather obstruct your satellite dish? Yes, me too. What happens to the signal?

The higher the bandwidth of the picture, the more signal problems will look like bad picture and less like big funny coloured squares.

I'm just going on simple Newtonian physics. If you're significantly faster on the lighter bike it's because you're trying harder 🙂 You need a double blind test.

Agreed. As far as I understand there is no error correction so if there is as error the receiving device is just meant to smooth over the error between adjacent pixels. Better cable = less errors = less smoothing or something like that.

In the end the wife detection test is the winner though 🙂 . Now if only I could get that to work with bikes as well

not getting involved with the thread, just didn't want to see a good pendantry-opportunity wasted
