I’m surprised this hasn’t surfaced. I’m thinking this might be worth the Sky monies; Ageing reformed(?) gobshite with some talent vs Mr Weigh****cher.
I’m not an expert though, thoughts?
Amazed anyone pays for such dung.
Shameless cash grab,a new low for PPV,hopefully a giant frozen ball of jumbo jet toilet water will land on the ring or something,Oh and I will be trying to steal it with a stream tho;)
Haye, assuming no injury before or during....
Won't pay to watch, but a good 'show'.
PPV? who knows so little about boxing to actually pay for that shyte?
A gobby fat guy who got bashed up by a short 12 stone guy - against a fella who was too scared to fight when he had a bad toe.
Trash
Its why they invented Kodi boxes...i haven't paid for PPV for ages!
Looking forward to it myself! Both are desparate to win. It’ll be a good scrap.
Last fight was mildly entertaining
Haye is well past it now though.. He should still win but only because bellew is very average.
It’s crap like this on PPV that devalues the rest of boxing on sky sports.
this should not be above the normal subscription fee that we pay. Both fighters clearly trying to get another big payday prior to retiring.
i won’t be watching it. I don’t mind paying for big fights with meaning, but this isn’t one of those.
My Mrs wants to watch it so will be buying it. Price takes the pee but we don’t pay for the sport channels so meh.
Oh, and I reckon it’ll be Haye with an early big punch or Bellew on points after Haye runs out of gas.
It tells you all you need to know about this farce when the outcome rests on if Haye turns up with or without an injury again ...
rubbish like this only appeals to those casuals who also bought into the Mayweather v McGreggor nonsense.
Should be a good fight. Both are essentially bulked up cruiser weights and there are plenty of worse fighters out there.
One thing I always think about fighters of this size is that they need to update the divisions in boxing. Heavyweight is only 14st 3lb (90kg) which is no size these days. Most over 6'3", which is not really very tall these days, that do a modicum of weight training will be over this limit, but would hardly make them a heavy weight combat athlete.
I'm 3-4kg over this myself and I'd hardly put myself in this category. With modern nutrition and training this weight is simply too low. Klitschko and Joshua are both well over 17st compared to 15st something for Bellew and Haye. That's too much of a gap. Lots of athletes these days will certainly naturally be over 90kg at weigh in and so face starving their frame to make cruiser or fighting against a 110kg+ monster.
There should be a super heavy division for the big boys starting at 15 st to 15st 6lb.
Heavyweight boxing has always had the giant heavyweights - thats why the greats of heavyweight boxing were admired so much. Dempsey, Patterson, Tyson were very small for heavyweights in their time ... but they still bashed up the bigger heavies.
You can win a fight in boxing without knocking your opponent out. Thats were the smaller faster guys will have their advantage over the plodding mechanical big heavies like the Klitschko`s/Joshua/etc.
If Haye is injury free - he will bash Bellew up as he likes. Don`t be at all surprised to see Bellew put up a very negative showing before quitting - the guy has always talked a better fight than he has ever delivered. He was losing the early rounds against Haye last time before the achilles went completely.
rubbish like this only appeals to those casuals who also bought into the Mayweather v McGreggor nonsense.
Well, you’ve got that wrong.
Good scrap but haye is so far shot he has no place in the ring.. Showed absolutely no boxing skills and his punch resistance has completely gone.
That said bellew is a far better boxer than he gets credit for.. Not elite . But no mug.
Haye shouldn't of been in the ring, clearly injured with a weak/turn archilles. But he turned up for the money. His footwork and defence were poor but hindered by his legs. Still, he's £5m richer....not a bad nights work...
I think Bellew is a bit under rated there's a hint of Witherspoon about him (not the pub chain for our younger posters).
had to smile listening to his interview afterwards. that came from the heart didnt it! made a refreshing change from the usual post-fight drivel.
DezB - rubbish like this only appeals to those casuals who also bought into the Mayweather v McGreggor nonsense.
Well, you’ve got that wrong.
.........................
Wrong about the result; certainly not wrong about the appeal.
The fight meant nothing - Haye cons the paying public again by coming in carrying an injury and loses against a mediocre fella.
You were wrong about the appeal. I don’t have to justify anything to you, but you have no idea who it appeals to.
Fights don’t have to be for titles to be interesting fights. Its only because of all the ‘casual observers, not knowing who fighters are and what they’re capable of, that there are so many bloody meaningless titles in existence.
Couldn’t have predicted such a good performance from Bellew anyway. Properly took care of Haye. Enjoyed that fight.
Calm down petal - of course you don’t have to justify anything to me.
If you enjoyed that then fair enough; personally I enjoy my boxing to be between two skilled tough guys - not a washed up fragile guy against a fat fella with a big mouth.
Haye is shot to bits. Nobody expected him to be so bad ... Bellew was just in the right place at the right time. Good luck to him - it’s seriously paid off.
but on the world scene - it’s as meaningless as two drunks swinging at each other at stop-tap.
As a "casual " any fight that ends with Haye sat on his arse is a good fight .
Why are folks saying haye was injured? He was shot to pieces, with zero punch resistance but he didn't look injured.
Roy Jones jnr proved that if you rely solely on explosive power, speed and reflexes then you can get old 'overnight'...
And if it can happen to a fighter of the calibre of Jones then it shouldn't be a surprise that it can happen to a far less capable one like haye
... Haye was once again dragging the foot before the end. Did you miss Haye grimacing as he clutched at the foot again?
Haye would have knew his Achilles wouldn’t have lasted the distance again; ok so he probably didn’t expect to have lost what little punch resistance he previously did ... but boxing shouldn’t be about the best of a bad bunch, who is worse than the other ... It deserves to be two men - man’o’man - skill, toughness and heart.
Roy Jones Jr stepped up to heavy and did himself no favours with PED’s to enable that - those and the move back down ruined him more than Father time.
Dempsey, Patterson, Tyson were very small for heavyweights in their time … but they still bashed up the bigger heavies.
Not really backed up by the evidence.
Tyson was 7 pounds heavier than Holyfield the first time around and they were both lighter than David Haye (and the first 22 of Haye's 32 fights were at cruiser weight) last night.
"Big" George Foreman at his peak when he fought Ali for the Rumble in the Jungle? Exactly the same weight as 2018 Haye.
As I said, fighters are bigger these days.
Haye may well have felt 100% fit going in, but he fell very awkwardly with the first knockdown. Heavyweights falling awkwardly and injuring ankles during a fight is not unknown. And he does have skinny ankles. Just shot really. Had a good career, time to call it quits.
Tune in for Lomachenko v Linares next week for a proper match of skills.
Tyson was 7 pounds heavier than Holyfield the first time around and they were both lighter than David Haye (and the first 22 of Haye’s 32 fights were at cruiser weight) last night.
Tyson and Holyfield were both small heavies (Holy was a Cruiserweight world champ too, no?), have a look at the weights of the blokes they fought.
Tyson was a career heavyweight - Holyfield was a former cruiserweight champ ... absolutely no surprises he was lighter than Tyson ... and most of his other opponents at heavyweight.
The point I was making when I mentioned Dempsey, Patterson and Tyson was that they were regarded as small heavyweights when at their peak, but still beat the bigger guys.
If size alone won fights then Haye would never have beaten Valuev ... and Valuev would still be unbeaten today.
I understand if some people enjoy seeing these type of shows. They are however blatant money grabbing pension fights ... the problem is the casuals don`t know any different and still buy into the BS.
Quite enjoyed the fight tbh. Bellew proved to have done his homework and Haye proved having 5 years off doesn’t do you any favours.
Haye thinks he’s 27, his mind tells him that, his body can’t react. He’s not had ten years getting used to it as he’s been virtually retired.
Bellew impressed me. Limited boxer but makes the most of what he’s got. Hope he gets a decent heavy weight fight and bet he gets a Joshua eliminator against Fury.
Bellew has stated he wouldn’t go near Joshua, and called out Fury on condition it’s by end of this year; before Fury has shed the ring rust ... which once again highlights modern boxing.
No longer do guys want to prove their special by stepping up and beating a fully fit guy ... they wait till the opponent is old or injured ... or preferably both.
What did you think of the Ward v Tennyson fight mooman? One for the “casuals”?
Y
Good point, well made, Ramsey Neil.
See last night’s fight then? Incredible stuff.
Loma is very talented for sure. As long as he doesn`t go chasing the big paydays by moving up again - then he should have another 3 maybe 4 years left at top level too; I think super feather is where he should stay though ... skilled operators like him will adapt as his reflexes etc start to diminish.
But Linares showed last night that Loma should avoid the top guys the weight above; he too small ... no way is he 5,7".
As for Ward v Tennyson; entertaining fight for two evenly matched kids ... but considering the weight they were fighting at - they both looked as if they were fighting under water.
Hug his Fury looked competent
