Symptoms would be helpful. Without further information, "I can't create threads" could be because there's a power cut, or your hands have fallen off.

I had the same, I click submit and it just goes back to the forum. Tried on Android ( Firefox) and Desktop ( Brave).

Pixel phone.

Type the title, the text body and section the forum.

Press submit and then nothing. Goes back to the main forum page but now I can't even click on any threads. So, hit refresh and then get asked to resubmit.

Do you get a "Did you really mean to do that?" message on screen?

I haven’t been able to create a new thread on iOS for a long time. I get that ‘did you really want to do that message’. Windows11/edge is fine

Ooh, this is handy. I meant to ask but couldn't for obvious reasons.
Is it only members that are allowed to start threads these days?

I get a message saying i don't have permission. I presumed that was due to my sub expiring. But i think i could post new threads before i got my sub, but i guess theyve changed it...

I did once get a message that I didn't have permission to post new threads. I was logged in at the time though.

Onza, I think you're getting the same as me. If you scroll right down the page do you see this error message:

Error: You do not have permission to create new topics

As above, I presumed it was the new normal for freeloaders. ( my sub expired this month,)

But then the OP of this thread is also a freebie, so the plot thickens...

Grrr, just realised this is probably why my request for advice is nowhere to be seen.

I've just tried (twice) and failed...
I wasn't sure if they had to be approved as it is the first thread I've tried to create

Was kinda hoping Onza would have replied by now, but.....

Anyway, got this email from mods yesterday, which seems to confirm it's a defect:

Sorry you’ve been having issues posting threads, we’ve asked the tech team to have a look for you

The tricky thing is that I reckon most people dont scroll down to see the error.

I've had the same message from the mods.

The time I did see the error message it was towards the top of the screen. May or may not have been one further down.

Also getting an occasional problem with opening threads. I sometimes have to refresh the screen so not been posting as much as I normally do.

I've had similar in the past where threads disappeared off into the ether. It was a glitch objecting to some keyword or other, "test" or "help" or something IIRC. Try creating an entirely different thread.

got this email from mods yesterday, which seems to confirm it’s a defect:

All that confirms is that the Mods don't know.

Just tried again to see if it's fixed.

Didn't work, so I scrolled down and found this:-

Error: You do not have permission to create new topics.

Anthony thinks he's found the cause and there's a temporary fix in place now. Do report if there's still problems with posting.

Slightly different problem for me: I just went to check on my forum replies (I'd given somebody some belated advice on kitesurfing and wanted to check if there was a follow-up) and I just got my profile page instead, with no means of looking at posting history.

That's the temporary fix.

Unfortunately the part of the software that was responsible for displaying your forum posts in your profile was causing the issue with some users' ability to post to the forum. The temporary fix involves deactivating the forum tab in your profile while Anthony and Andy find the root of the issue and fix it.

I just went to post a topic but found that the box in which I would do so, doesn't appear on the bottom of the forum page when I scroll down.

@onzadog for the moment you have to go into the individual forum where you want the thread to live in order to start a new thread, it's part of the temporary fix

Are you going into the Chat or Bike sections before trying to start a new thread?

I can’t post on iOS. It’s just not offered. There’s no new topic box at all.
plus looking at comments only has ancient ones and posts is empty.
checking “notify me of follow up replies” doesn’t generate an email as before.
frustrating

would really appreciate it working properly.

Strange. If I go to either chat or bike today I  can create a topic. Great. My other comments still stand.
