Bought a 5l bottle off eBay a couple if years back. Pretty sure it was under £15.
The same amount now goes for £80
Wake up at the back! #rollseyes
We are struggling at work to get stocks.
It's nearly as bad as that time when the car plastics factory burnt down and the world ran out of acetonitrile.

Not sure there's really a need for that.
Just curious if this is sellers with stock trying it on, or if prices have risen all along the supply chain.
Supply and demand innit.
I was astounded what it goes for now: I checked my last few purchases and it was always under £5 / L bottle delivered. Not now!
Bought 5 liters on eBay about 6 or 8 weeks ago before just all this properly kicked off. Think I payed about £15. It was intended as disk brake cleaner and general garage degreaser. I still use it (sparingly) for that, but have a load decanted into little spray bottles to decontaminate door handles, shopping, car steering wheel etc. So chuffed I bought it when I did.
Craft ale is expensive.
I genuinely thought this was going to be a thread about how a previously unloved niche beer type had become the hipster money spinner of choice for the bearded ale sipping generation...is disappoint.
So, er what is it about?
S'all 'bout artisan isopropyl alcohol these daze.
So, er what is it about?
Rubbing alcohol.
A product, rather than two pastimes.
Yeah, realised, was looking for my order on Amazon, where I bought from as I couldn't remember how much cos the stuff lasts ages. Order has disappeared from history though. Weird
It's a sign of our strange times that the cheapskate way of cleaning brakes is now to use brake cleaner.
(incidentally, random PSA- hycote brake cleaner is great value, 4 600ml tins is £12.50 on ebay. I'll probably not go back to using bottled IPA as a general cleaner with this so cheap)
My litre can came from Maplin for about £8. More expensive than Amazon/eBay but more convenient at the time
Paid £13.70 for 5ltr back in Aug 2019, still have 4 x 1Ltr bottles left if anyone wants to make me a ridiculous offer.
If you want it to steralize handles etc then try and source (bio)ethanol. I picked up 6 litres from BandQ for about £18.
Found a big bottle in the garage earlier, probably 2l.
£50 posted STW special? 😉
If you want an anti viral spray for handles etc, use a 1:10 vinegar:water mixture. The low pH denatures/kills the virus particles.
Can also be used for overcooked chips!

I’ll think to proven techniques not ones that might work.

There was a thread about this very subject not so very long ago!
Anyway, picked up three 150ml bottles from Tesco for my g/f this afternoon for £6.
It’s being used as an alternative to Ethanol based hand sanitiser.
Apparently, the world supply of ethanol is around 300000l a year and to supply every man woman and child with 100ml of hand sanitiser, you’d need around 4-6million litres of it.
So, IPA is being used instead. Even so, there’s not enough IPA to do this as IPA is more widely used for other purposes than ethanol (fuel additive, hand sanitiser, etc) hence the price increase.
Don’t most virus have a lipid surface layer component? So wouldn't soap be as good for sanitising as IPA for sanitising? Although not so good for cleaning brakes, natch.
Soap and water is very much the way to go.
Sanitiser is for when a sink is not within reach
Soap and water is the best for handwashing. But it's not quite so convenient for disinfecting your door handles, car steering wheel and gear stick etc. I find a little spray bottle of IPA and a cloth is best for that.
