Then maybe you can confirm.

Walking in the Apuane Alps in Tuscany and came across several of these..... Only thought to take a pic of the last one....

Later saw this sign....

Also saw what I think were Griffon vultures, several deer and came up really close to two big fat cinghiale, but fortunately for me they were dead and loaded onto a front mounted rack on a Defender 90 (wish I had a pic of that!).

So there's definitely enough food and it kinda looked life coarse hair, like a wild boar.

Beautiful area.

Ehh, well dog poo will reflect the diet the dog is fed on so I guess wolf poo would be a different from reprocessed Winalot and dry stuff... hopefully smell less.

I have seen a wolf in the wild

I read up on the poo you see in the woods of western Canada. From memory, wolf poo wasn’t that hairy, but that could have something to do with the local diet.

Certainly looks similar to the Coyote (and also potentially Wolf) poo you see where I am (BC Canada). My dog likes to pee / mark on it ha ha.

I’ve seen Griffon vultures in the Alps. Slightly disconcerting as they circle above whilst we were riding up a fire road. They were waiting for the slowest one to drop.

Had several amazing experiences with the Griffon vultures in Spain. Maybe a hundred anywhere from 5 m to 50m or more swirling above our heads. Mind blowing.

This 'wolf' had an extremely hairy rabbit ear as a treat last night. Coughed a big hairball up about 4am in the morning, (thanks for that) bit also did a hairy poo this morning.  20240128_172103

Mrs_oab and I 'visited' a huge Gryphon vulture colony (with a few Egyptian cultures hanging around too) in Spain on a hillwalk up Mugarra.
Mrs_oab was genuinely worried as they were a metre bigger than her...
TBF, they were a) fekkin huge and b) flying increasingly close to us on the summit ridge.

Loads of vultures circling over the last climb on my trail race this morning  - it was pretty hot for January, and by that point we were probably all smelling fairly fruity, perhaps that attracted them 😀

I’ve had 2 headless pigeons sort of drop out the sky next to me , I think we’ve got some bird of prey flying around this part of Spain.

I’d rather experience the furry turds tbh 🙂

Going to ask a hunter next time I see one which will likely be next week.

But I'm thinking it is after having looked at other wolf poo photos on Google. There were others further back along the track.

Might go for a ride tomorrow and see what I see.

They're a metre bigger than a lot of people with their 2.85m wingspan....

After five months in Spain you almost became nonchalant about seeing them. Wildlife is Spain was awesome.

Almost....

Griffon vultures are indeed huge, and definitely check you out as a possible snack.

I was sat resting having climbed 600m from the bottom to the rim of the Gorges du Tarn a couple of summers ago. Looking out over the gorge, I suddenly heard a sound like a hang glider, and looked up as this enormous thing flew past about 20m above me having basically swooped down. By the time I could grab the camera, it was circling 100m above me. I must have been looking really decrepit and hadn't moved for a while.

Later the same day, after a really heavy rain shower, one was drying out on a wall by the road as I headed back to our campsite. It was, indeed, ****in' huge. I presume it got unexpectedly soaked and couldn't fly off until dry.

Wolf poo would be very cool.

Was always on the look out for road kill whilst in Spain.

Ended up using the GF's cuddly possum thing tied to a rope and left out on a grassy patch. Had a few circling above. They can see their potential quarry/dead thing from up to 6km away. Mental.
One Spanish parks guy near Cuenca told us that due to the high numbers of birds and the EU rule that no dead livestock be left out in the fields the birds don't have enough to eat. There are reports of vultures attacking live prey.
Some woman fell in the Pyrenees a few years back and she was devoured by vultures before being found. It's not known whether she was dead before the birds arrived.

Kind of amazing timing, i trod in one today, a wolf poo.
There's a handful of them in the forest round me.

So yes, i have seen one, and scraped it off on a random hump of forest.

edit:- There are primarily wolves in the forest round me, and obviously they poo...

That reminds me, I don't think I've seen him on the forum recently...

I've heard wolves howling on a night ride.

I was on corstorphine hill about 10pm in the summer. It's right next to Edinburgh zoo. The wolves in the zoo started howling.

I popped myself and started imagining they had escaped. Never gone down the hill so fast 😀

All the while thinking, if they have escaped I'm sure they will be faster than me no matter how hard I pedal.

A mate lives near a safari park and says she can occasionally hear them. There is no way I'd be able to live in earshot.

I did see one whilst on a bimble on my bicycle on Fleecer Ridge, Montana once. It circled me about 300 metres away which was pretty cool.

Lots of vultures in northern Spain.  Whilst walking in Somiedo natural park we were treated to about 50 of them circling above the ridge for about 10mins. The batteries died on my camera as they flew over. Most annoying.

Here's a photo of one in the Auvergne:

Spoke to a hunter earlier today and he confirmed it was wolf poo.....

Cacca di lupo!

Oh, and I got a better view of the big birds today with the binoculars.... the birds are Golden Eagles, not vultures. How cool is that?

It's great to see that wolves are getting plenty of roughage in their diet. Thanks for sharing.
