Recently the house in which my family lived from my age: 13-23 came up for sale at a quite elevated price.
My sister commented that she'd never fully forgiven them for selling it. It's on the edge of the NY Moors, not worth much as a des' res' in 1989 - how times have changed!
I recall telling my folks to hold off for a year before selling on the previous house which they sold when work moved the family up 'norf when I was 12 but as it transpired the dual carriageway planned to go through the front garden never materialised and the next owner made a huge killing.
It happens...
The thing is, I could have retired a while back in the sun if they'd not sold either / both properies!
Well, not quite...
Best sell some more piccys then!
;=)
I was thinking of selling my folks before they ruin my retirement plans! 😉
Well, my father gave me some jazz vinyl 78's to sell at a car boot sale. I said "no way" and am looking after them.
Crystal ball ...
a friend of mines mother sold her grandfathers collection of antique swords at a carboot for £10 each!!!
my step nan had been doing the same lotto numbers since it started, a bloke at her church told her that theyll never come up and to do some randoms. you guessed it they ALL came up that week.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing: We bought our first house in 2000 based on just one of use working. If we'd paid twice as much, then moved to our current house last year we'd have been pretty much mortgage-free at age 32.
We'd also have both been tied into our jobs, so I'd not have been able to go back to uni for a year, my wife couldn't have given up work to look after our kids...
Have you ever advised your folks NOT to sell something and been proved correct?
Yes, I advised my Mum not to sell crack on the streets. As a result she didn't become a crack whore and go to prison and her life is so much the better for it I reckon. She certainly seems happy anyway.
