With great delight, I've been noticing that every single horse-chestnut tree I've seen to date, appears to be free of that horrible blight, spread by a certain moth that caused the leaves to brown prematurely. Not seen anything mentioned on Country File. Anyone else noticed? Seems like years since I can remember blight free trees! Hope I'm not being too premature...
Doesnt that happen in late July onward though?
I read the best way to stop it is to clear all the leaves away from the base of the tree.
Yeah it's not yet as the leaves have only just come out.
Luckily, Leaf-miner doesn't kill the tree but it'll be next month when things start to happen, although the offending moth caterpillar will have made its way into the leaves by now.
Bleeding canker is the one that can kill the tree, I'll be looking out for a rusty coloured sap leaking from the trunk bark. It's easy to spot as it dries to a very dark or black colour.
Aye the leaves are hardly out yet, you've blown your nuts a bit prematurely.
Yes, as usual I was being hopefully optimistic - thought that some "miracle of nature" had rid us of this annual blight! But, as you say, my delight was a tad premature!!!
saw this and thought of this thread

There's one like that near our house, but too far away to been seen in detail. I told my daughter that it was full of owls.
There is a row of horse chestnut trees on a local recreation ground, every one is in fabulous flower, some blossom pink and others off white, tis glorious.
CONKERS!
