Have we had a Dune thread yet?

The Fremen had been using them a very long time, they were featured using them in Part 1.

I'm on about the massive interplanetery ships they were taking off in at the end, the ones that were knocked over like pinballs by the worms during the fighting

Got to agree it felt a bit disjointed like it has been edited and missing some important details. The major battle and deposing of the emperor felt a bit rushed and lacked depth. Don't get me wrong it's in no way an Alien 3 style cut and shut travesty, more of an Event Horizon it could have been even better with the edited out/storyboarded scenes included. Or as the case may be, omissions from the original story!

I was glad that I read the book again before going to see the films.
I thought they did an excellent job on both,and enjoyed watching them with the story fresh in my head.
Not sticking exactly to the letter of the book didn't bother me in the least.
I do think they have a job on their hands for the next film though.
Getting across the details behind Alia,Gholas,Facedancers and the scheming Princess Irulan is going to be a tough gig.

I just watched pt2 in IMAX. I was impressed. Some bits felt a bit rushed and stuff was
Missed out but on the whole it was really engaging - I think is complements the book quite well.

It was stupidly, I would say irresponsibly loud though. Not the body shaking bass, but the high mid and treble. That seems to be the cinema not the film though as the ads were as bad. By the end of the trailers it was really quite unpleasant as trailers tend to go for maximum effect…. I’m wondering is those sound levels are even legal and there’s no way I’m taking my 11 hr olds to see IMAX films in the near future

Well I enjoyed pt 2 much more than pt 1 (saw it on Saturday night). But it's still far, far away from my favourite film ever.

Not that, but when Christopher Walken started his speech at the end, I was half expecting him to mention the watch hidden up his ass.

We had the same experience  in an odeon. A couple of points should have crescendoed nicely but its like the missed the cue and it all got a bit mushy.

I enjoyed the shaking bass. So much, in fact, that I've just bought a sub to add to my Sonos Beam at home as I'd forgotten how much extra it adds to film-watching experience 🙂

I think that is something of a calling card for Villeneuve, he mixes the background noise up and the dialogue down. I think it is to create a false sense of intensity, as it means you have to really focus on the dialogue to follow it, unfortunately not because of complexity or actually good dialogue but just because the sound is messed up.

I refused to watch Part 1 unless I knew there was a Part 2 in the way and I've finally seen them both hooray! I even held of re-reading the book as I get distracted from film/s when they deviate from the source. As its been 20 since reading Dune I get to go "huh, I don't remember that" instead.

So anyway.

Are there likely to be more films? Is this just supposition or rumour?

Yeah part 3 is happening but if you can't wait then the 2003 Children of Dune miniseries is an adaptation of the 2nd and 3rd Dune books.
