It's off the top of Cloggy (Clogwyn dur Arddu) which is the big cliff off to your right as you head up the Llanberis path. Looks like it's off the top of the Far East Buttress which is about 150 metres top to bottom.

Oh yes. Seems like dragging that behind you as you're trying to launch off a load of rocks would be the riskiest part of the whole thing.
I know one or two base jumpers and they usually have the drogue chute in their hand as they jump, must have been some reason to have it on the ground.
Yeh, certainly not seen that before. Would've thought it was a recipe for snags but, as you say, must be some reason.

I think you've just answered your own question. I'm guessing the vertical bit isn't anywhere near 150m, so .....
@thegenralist - from what I understand they hold the drogue chute and throw it as soon as they leave the ground. I doubt there's much difference in time between that method and having the drogue on the ground.
I've only done a couple of routes on that buttress and from memory it's pretty steep, the top 70 metres or so of the front face is vertical but it depends just where you look at - I think one bit is vertical for longer than that.
You don't have to do any free fall in a BASE jump, just jump off the edge hope the chute opens up and you're high enough for it to slow you down enough before hitting the ground.
