....looking for inspiration! It certainly sounds like it from the new album...
Caution: NSFW as it’s (unsurprisingly) quite sweary. But also very very funny 😂
Simply splendid. See also: Mod, Diff, V Diff, Hard Severe.
Great album. And possibly the first mention of Strava / "Froomedog" in popular music?
Band has cropped up a few times on the forum over the years. Been quite a few bike references in the lyrics on several albums and remember some between song cycling banter at one gig where Nigel (lead singer) asked the crowd not to shout out who had won that day's Dauphine stage as he'd recorded the highlights and was watching them later. Not something I suspect you get at many concerts.
New album is brilliant, though to be honest all the albums are brilliant. Off to see them in London a week tomorrow.
He also once opened a gig with the words "outside bet, Andy Schleck". May have been the year before Evans won the tour.
Actually... looking at the present thread titles on the chat forum, a good few of them could be either HMHB or Fall song titles 😀
Mrs Binners works for an environmental charity that does, among many other things, Bat walks. So this track did the rounds last night to much hilarity
Its very sweary
You can see Badgers in Roydon Park too. Bit of easypeasy climbing, minature steam train and pleasant pootle on the bike. Never seen a bat.
Never seen a bat.
you should go on an organised walk. Strictly no dogs, booking essential.
They've gone a bit swearier on this one haven't they 🙂
The HMHB placename bingo is strong for me on this album, getting ever closer to home: 'Picnics with craft beer, Elbow in Delamere'
He's on shimano ultegra now don't you know!
I've never worked out why they wrote a song about Chatteris, Cambs.
I think my favourite lyric is on this one is:
Oh let me gaze upon your curves
Instead of Ipswich Town reserves
Loving this. Will have to have a listen on Spotify...
Where's Nige getting all this from - he wouldn't last 5 seconds in the company of the chattering classes before rupturing a bile duct.
Reckon he never leaves the house, like Emily Bronte. Minus the optimism.
“Blaby’s in Leicestershire “
correct

If he doesn’t he’s got a double who fronts the band when they play live, then. Not entirely sure what it is you’re trying to say, mind.
A week in, thanks to CD Sid of Hebden.
It's brilliant, isn't it? Best since CSI Ambleside, for sure.
And very dark too;
Then time creeps up unseen
And it puts me back at the front of the bus
Hands I once held no longer thereGrey falls on the green
As I try and get used to ‘me’ and not ‘us’
Where I’m going I’m not sure that I care...
Galvanised briefly
I rang up and spoke to a nurse
Overnight, seemingly
Things took a turn for the worse
There goes my spark
Here comes the dark
Close family only, they will say
And what with the MRSA
Restrictions on visiting
Suit me I have to confess
Being wasted with passions
I don’t have the courage to express
Would make me feel a bit dbt/gbp, if wasn't for the first five tracks.
I'm off to eat Battenberg and stare at the garden......
It’s a proper good un. I’m more worried about the new Proclaimers album - Angry Cyclist, Craig’s my neighbour so I hope he’s not been watching me shout at cars !
🙂
Ashamed to say I've only got the first Proclaimers album. No idea why.
I’ve never worked out why they wrote a song about Chatteris, Cambs.
A close friend of mine, ex-g/f as it happens, lives out that way, and Chatteris has a bit of a reputation as the sort of place you only go to, not through, and if you’re not local, people stare at you. A local town for local people, if you get my drift...
CountZero,
That's kind of my point. The lyrics suggest they know a bit about Chatteris (or spent time on google street view). Maybe like you, a girl friend? It also has a by-pass, so no need to even go through it now. Lots of new houses now, as it's a commuter town for Cambridge.
I live a few miles south so can confirm the last line is pretty accurate!
our hedge always need cutting !
